Neil Young said "Heart of Gold" put him in the middle of the road(popularity wise)but he ran back in the ditch...It was a bumpier ride but he met a lot of interesting people there.

I love his soft stuff and his harder music. He was singing about protecting the environment 35 yrs ago at least(excuse my sentences) He released OHIO ten days after the kids were murdered at Kent St. Saw him live at Columbus last yr with CSNY...my first concert...what a hoot. His electric guitar on "Going Home" was unbelievable. Steven Stills helped out too. Sorry to ramble

Peace

I remember in 1980 they did a countdown of the best songs of the 70s. The winner: Bridge Over Troubled Water. Not too sure who did the countdown. It might have been the local radio station or it might have been a national survey like Billboard. Don't remember. Just remember the song.

For specific comments see below, however, what a great week for music !  ;D

1970 - Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel

Beautiful song - lovely mix of vocals and harmonising, the bit where the break in "Sail On Silvergirl" makes me wanna cry  :-1971 - One Bad Apple - The Osmonds

Nyyeeehh, well, not really my cuppa tea, but okay !

1972 - Heart Of Gold - Neil Young

Great, Neil Young doing what Neil Young does best, and from his best album "Harvest".

1973 - Killing Me Softly With His Song - Roberta Flack

Another beautiful song that makes me all misty !  :D

1974 - Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks

A lotta people put crap on this song, and it is schmaltzy, but I still like it - a tearjerker !

1975 - Black Water - The Doobie Brothers

IMHO, one of the best things the Doobies ever did !

1976 - December, 1963 (Oh, What A Night) - The Four Seasons

Good comeback after a long time out

1977 - Love Theme From "A Star Is Born" (Evergreen) - Barbra Streisand

My only Striesand song that I like, but it's a beauty !  Great lyrics (for it's type that is) - and I love that bit at the end where the piano notes go up the scale then back down and trail away.... :)

1978 - Night Fever - The Bee Gees

Yeah well...."Disco Bee Gees" were never my favourite incantation of the boys from Brissie....I liked their earlier stuff

1979 - I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

One of my favourite disco era songs - great clever lyrics !

Roberta Flack has a beautiful voice which lent itself very well to the sound of the early 70's.  :)

I like your comments, Fuss, however I tend to disagree about The Bee Gees disco music.  Everything they have done is wonderful, but I especially liked them during this time in their career.  I don't typically care much for fasletto but these guys knew how to carry it to new levels!  ;D  ;)
