Subject: what movie is this?

ok, this movie is from the early 80s i think, but it is very possible that it is from the late 70s. here is the only scene that i know of:

a group of spies/cat burglars/adventurers(whatever they are) sneaks into some sort of fortress or house or base or something else that is very well-guarded. there are booby traps everywhere. the group includes at least one woman, and maybe one black man. the others are probably white men or a man of some other nationality. the lead actor looks sort of like neil diamond or maybe kind of like gene simmons in that movie "Runaway"(with Tom Selleck and all of the little killer machines) ... anyway, the climax of the movie is the group inside a room trying to get to a center object that holds something valuable. they have to use ropes and pulleys and stuff to get there(kind of like tom cruise in mission impossible). the main actor gets to the center, and gets whatever object he is trying to snatch, but there is a booby trap that involves a real snake or a mechanical snake. it bites him very fast and he is left there, dangling in mid-air, dying from the poison as the girl watches in horror. then, the others simply must leave him behind as they try to escape. i know this is a real movie, but my memory of it is very hazy, but i think all of these details are accurrate. thanks for any help you can give me! ;)
