OK, here's another topic to ponder...what is your favorite guilty pleasure disco song (aren't they ALL guilty pleasures)...

I'll start the ball rollin'...  My ALL TIME FAVORITE Disco song is:

"You Make Me Feel" (Mighty Real) --Sylvester

I admit it, I will sing this puppy at the top of my lungs on the 'ol iPod.

Good choice, KtC.  I'll take that one and these:

"Born To Be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez
"Instant Replay" by Dan Hartman
"Shake Your Groove Thing" by Peaches & Herb

"Let's show the world we can daaaaaaaaance..."  :D

Could n't resist this thread!

Some good choices guys but I'm going to have to go for either, the Whispers 'the beat goes on' or Dan Hartman 'vertigo/relight my fire' I play them all the time in my club! :D :D

Le Freak-Chic
Shake Your Groove Thing-Peaches and Herb
(And of course) I will Survive-Gloria Gaynor.
(Ok, I confess) The Village People. Can't help but laugh at all of their songs.  ;D

"Fran Mig Till Dig" by Emma Nilsdotter and "More, More, More" by The Andrea True Connection.

Those are the most lurid and attractive sounds to ever come out of the Disco era although Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder are the best Disco artists to ever grace the scene.

That one gets my vote for the quickest to jump to the beat Disco tune. There's absolutely no way you're just gonna sit there, at a party or dance club, if this song comes up.  8)

My #1 other guilty pleasures:

*Tie*

Young & Company - I Like What You're Doin' To Me
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
Cerrone - Supernature
Gary's Gang - Keep On Dancing

The "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack
Blondie "Heart Of Glass"
"Pure Funk" compilation CD
(Rick James, George Clinton, & The Commodores)

BTW, I normally dislike disco. (no offense)
With an exception of a few songs.
And I like funk though.  :D
I'm more into '70's classic rock.

You know, for all the bad press Disco gets you have to admit that it made you want to move!
My favorites were:
Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
Stayin' Alive - The Beegees
Nights On Broadway - The Beegees
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
Wanna Be Startin' Somthing - Michael Jackson

I too must confess to Disco being a guilty pleasure!   :-[ When I got my first transistor radio, Disco was just starting to really hit and the local AM station was playing the Bee Gees, Donna Summer et al nonstop.

My fave disco tunes include:

Born to be Alive
Play that Funky Music
Funkytown (and I also like the 80's remake)
Don't leave me this way
Rock the Boat
Ring my Bell
also, the entire Saturday Night Fever soundtrack

This is yet another of my fave things that my hubby just doesn't understand - he does not like disco music  :(

Of course the Bee Gees come to mind for a few disco songs but who could ever forget one of the best disco song makers of the 70's.......... the one and only KC and the Sunshine Band

"Dancing Queen" -- ABBA

Some good tunes there, everyone...

Rather surprised no-one's picked the mighty George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby" - tho' myself I prefer the follow-up, "I Can't Leave You Alone" (which wasn't big chartwise Stateside...)

Two that were (but not in the UK, tho' most approaching 40'll know 'em...)
"Fly Robin Fly" - Silver Convention
"TSOP" - MFSB

"Got To Give It Up" - Marvin Gaye, has a fair ol' groove to it - tho' the full-length version might've been pushing it a bit!

As did Ms Ross's "Upside Down" which was going out of the "disco" era (mind you, anything with the involvement of Chic's OK by me!)

There's doubtlessly countless others - not bad going for a genre which has had its fair share of negativity attached to it!

Apart from the obvious 'classics' such as Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor, there are some great disco hits that may be a little on the trashier side....

How about:
Disco Tex and the Sex-o-lettes' 'Keep Dancing'
Divine's 'Shoot Your Shot'
and Boy's Town Gang's 'Can't Take My Eyes Of You'....?

Whatever became of Disco Tex?

all the best
