"Raisin Wrangler eats Sunmaid raisins for the fastest energy in the west". How about Libbyland dinners with "Libby the kid". What was the instant drink much like kool aid, but had a character named "Goofy Grape"? Gonna take a while, have a "Choc-o-dile". Also there was a cereal commercial about "Clackers".

"It's Libby the Kid." "That's Billy the Kid spell sideways, sort of." I remember that. I think I actually had a few of those dinners. Today, when I see those lunchables, I think of those dinners.

I also remember Clackers. "Don't be afraid. All that I want is your Clackers." (said almost like the "Aflack" duck.)

How about "Who wears short shorts?"

Of course the classic is "Get Mikey to eat it."

What a trip down memory lane. I remember all these commercials. I like the one for Chiffon, Its not nice to fool mother nature and all the animals would be around her. There are so many commercials that are running through my head, I will have to sit and write them down and post them.
We had a local commercial here in Maryland that sticks in my mind. it was for our local weather man, Bob Turk and the commercial had four men signing a tune about Bob Turk to the tune of My Girl but instead of my girl its  "Talking about Bob Turk, Bob Turk,Bob Turk. Any MD'rs on here are sure to remember that one.

VH1 recently had a "Pop Up Commercials" special that shown classic commercials from the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, and (GASP!!!) today.

It was great though, except for the pesky pop ups.

My favorites were the Dr. Pepper commercial with the people dacing on the wall & ceiling from the 1970's and the Domino's Avoid the Noid from the 1980's.

I wish I was around to enjoy these great commercials.
Now they don't make sense. They are very confusing.
The only good commercials out there now are for Mountain Dew and several soap ads.
What does wilderbeasts running through two people have to do with jeans?

Subject: Re: Forgotten commercials ~ I Remember :D !

The Gap - when it only sold jeans -"get to the Gap, now, fall into the Gap- We have four tons of Levi's waitin' for you, now, at the Gap, now, fall into the Gap".

Right Guard Deoderant- The guy who is sharing a medicine cabinet with his neighbor..."MONAAAAAAAA!!"

Curl Free ~ "If you're a curly haired mop-top, stop, stop - get Curl Free, the coooool one !:D"

There was actually a Clearisil commercial in the 60s on the radio that went like this " I am an acne pimple, as lonely as can be.Don't cry, pimple, I'll keep ya company. Hey, fellow pimples, would three be a crowd ? All together pimples, sing real loud : Nah, Nah, NAh..."

Reale Sangria ~ "Take a big wet gurgley gulp of Reale -- Sang-ria, 43.9 percent more gurgley gulps, in Reale.Reale is the wineist, coolest gurgle in town - Reale Sangria !"

Cracker Jack ~ What do you want when ya gotta have something, and it's gotta be a lot and ya gotta have it now ? Lip-smackin', (gibberish which I never understood)...Cracker Jack. Candy coated pop corn, peanuts, and a prize. That's what you get in Cracker Jack."

Lemon Up (skin astringent) ~ "Lemon up, make Peace with grease."

Does anyone remember the commercial-I really can't remember what it was for (probably some acne medication) that the jingle went:

(First person) "I am a lonely pimple. As lonely as can be. Na na nana na nana na na na."

(Second person) "Don't cry pimple, I'll keep you company."

(Third person) "Hey follow pimples, will three be a croud."

(Fourth person) "All together pimples, sing real loud."

(All) "NAAAAA"

My sisters and I still sing this song together while my nieces looks at us as if to ask "What planet are you from?" lol

I just remembered a PSA commercial which was for safety. It went something like:

"Don't walk in the middle, in the middle , in the middle in the middle of the block.......and wait, and wait, and wait until the light turns green".

When Richard Bey had his radio show-not so long agao- on WABC radio, he revived this commercial using his own words. What a blast from the past. :D

Dad: Things were different then.
Daughter: Aren't things different now?

Daughter: Then can I have a dog?
Dad: NO! You can't have a dog.
Daughter: Daddy, I already have a dog.

LOL the ones that I remember singing were the mounds (sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I dont) and the I'm a Pepper, your a Pepper, she's a Pepper wouldnt you like to be a Pepper too?

My favorite was one that was for RC cola, thier answer to Tab before Diet coke came out, and it was the jingle that went RC 100's got nothing.. anyone remember that? I still think the 70s and 80s had some of the best jingles

Subject: Re: Forgotten commercials

A British jingle that came to mind today was for Trebor Extra Strong Mints

'Trebor mints are a minty bit stronger'

To which we always added 'Stick 'em up your bum and they last a bit longer'!

I cannot for the life of me remember whether there really was another line or not.

Subject: Re: Forgotten commercials

Written By: Paul_UK on 05/20/03 at 01:47 p.m.

Not as far as I'm aware, Karen...I think that was the only line of the jingle - everyone used to staple that rhyme you remember on the end of it!

One of the earliest memorable ones I remember was (I think) American in origin - for Wrigleys' spearmint gum. Bizarre thing this - whereby various people would be walking around carrying HUGE packets of the stuff! Now you know where Dom Joly's mobile phone gag comes from!

Another memorable one (for Brits anyway) was for R White's Lemonade - the secret lemonade drinker. So popular it was actually resurrected for a while in the 1990's. OK anoraks - our "secret lemonade drinker" was Ross McManus, the father of Declan - better known to you, I and even himself as Elvis Costello...wonder if Elvis has ever done a version of that jingle?!

I can actually remember 2 different variants of this commercial.  During the 1970's, "stop-action animation" was very popular.

In one, it was one of a series of Levi commercials.  They showed a guy moving through a surreal world, where he is the only one that seems normal, with the song "Mule SKinner Blues" playing in the background.  In one of them, I remember the "driving a car with no car" stunt.

In another (and I actually have a copy of this commercial on MPG) has Ronald McDonald doing this, after The Professor gives him a steering wheel.

There were a lot of others like this.  I even remember in 5th grade taking an animation class, and doing these kinds of stunts myself.  We used a good old Super 8mm camera.

I remember one for M&Ms with a bunch of gunslingers playing cards and one said, "These cards are marked." Another one said, "Yeah, they are a mess" and they look at this guy who is eating chocolate and has it EVERYWHERE. You know, "M&Ms melt in your mouth, not in your hands." And then at the end of the commercial, one guy said, "Got any 3s?" and the other said, "Go fish."

STUFF

Oh, that reminds me of our schoolyard chant:
"Wrigley's spearmint gum gum gum,
stick it up your bum bum bum,
stick on your shirt shirt shirt,
eat it for dessert 'zert 'zert"
...and there were many variations thereon.

Also "Comet will make you vomit, it will make your teeth turn green..." and I can't remember the rest.

Alka Seltzer trivia:
The "Plop plop fizz fizz" jingle was written by Julianna Margulies' (of ER fame) father.  They were a NYC-based family, but at the time they lived near us in NH.  In fact, Mrs. Margulies taught dance at our school and I was in her class.  I never met Julianna, but my sister was friends with her older sister.  The family was LOADED!

STUFF

Were Rothschilds around in the '70s?  I first remember them in about 1980.  Used to buy 'em all the time.  They had toffee, butterscotch, and something that resembled a Rollo. Anyone remember what else?  The wrappers were dark brown with garrish lettering, and gold foil.

Don't forget:

"Have another Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Sandwich cookie!"

I keep remembering a Charleston Chew commercial with a Court of Louis XIV theme.  A nobleman says, "My Charleston Chew is chewy, Louis!"

What year was "Coke Adds Life"?  1978 or 1979?

"Pow Pow Powerful Clearisil, Get the Pow Pow Power!"

Somebody mentioned Woodsy the Owl.  Speaking of public service announcements, does anybody remember "Hi, I'm from Mars, and I eat lots of candy bars!," or was that a regional ad here in New England?

Ah!  Public service ads!
I remember an anti-smoking commercial from the mid (early?) 70's - It had a bunch of hippie-like teenagers draped over the front steps of a school singing about the nastiness of smoking...the words went something like: smoking makes your teeth yellow, smoking makes your clothes smell-o...blah blah...
It may have only aired in Canada - anyone recall?

Also loved the groovy Cherry Blossom commercial (chololate from Lowney) with the psychedelic colours and the big singing lips... 8)

The famous "Mikey likes it" LIFE cereal commercial appeared in the move Network on one of the network monitors after Howard Beal gets shot.

I remember the commercial AND the rumors that "Mikey" died because he et 20 packs of Pop Rocks and drank a six pack of Coca-Cola.

In 1987 LIFE ran a contest.  There was a collage of photos of kids on the box.  Contestants were supposed to guess which one was Mikey.  The most prominant picture was a big Baltimora looking guy with a mohawk.

That's a classic advert. The guy secretly walks down the stars (looking like Elvis Costello) walks over the dog and shushes him. Walks to the fridge and pours the lemonade into a glass and his wife catches him drinking it - simple yet effective. The 90s came and surreal twists occurred at the end of each advert - Here's a couple . . .

- His wife doesn't come from behind the fridge but a disco club scene starts up and he gets snogged by a girl.

- TV football pundits Saint and Greavsie walk in on the man dressed in his wife's nightie!

- A shot of the cartoon Mr Benn appears at the end of the advert!

Here are a few TV adverts I remember watching when I was a kid . . .

Shake n Vac

A hyperactive woman flies around the living room singing "Do the Shake n Vac and put the freshness back". Resurfaced in the late 80s but didn't have the same impact. Can be seen, with a load of other adverts, on the website called 'TV Ark'.

Um Bongo

Libby's Um Bongo showed a nice colourful jungle scene featuring lots of animals - anyone remember the complicated jingle? To find out, click on the link: http://www.umbongo.com/bongo_downloads.html

Kia Ora

Brilliant simple animation of a negro child being followed by a load of comical crows pretending to be his dog. Featuring the neccessary catchy jingle originally sung by Caramba.

Smash

Instant mash potato was advertised by a load of dalek sounding robots that used to laugh at the end quite often. 'With mash get Smash'. Also found on the TV Ark website.

Mr Soft

Trebor Soft mints used the song 'Mr Soft' by Cockney Rebel. It featured a foam world were a wobbly man bounced into a lampost at the end.

7-Up

The drawing only known as Fido Dido makes more than one appearance in these adverts. Became a cultural icon in the late 80s. For a picture of Fido Dido, click the link:

Here's one that has been haunting me for years. It was circa 1979, and was for some type of home-made chicken product in the same vein as "Shake and Bake". It showed a bunch of people sampling chicken in a public place (a shopping mall I believe). The commercial began with an elderly white lady, with a Southern accent, saying "I can describe this chicken in two words,"MMMMMM! MMMMMMMMMMMM!". My friends and I used to laugh hysterically when we saw this ad. It seems like they used to run commercial campaigns longer back in those days. They showed that one for at least a year, maybe longer. We used to crack each other up, imitating the woman's voice, repeating what she said. Does anybody remember this commercial?  ??? Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.
