Subject: Impossible lyrics to identify

Written By: DaisyJane on 05/10/03 at 10:14 a.m.

Hello, I am TRYING to id some lyrics, and it's been over 10 years of trying.

"forever
good friends are forever.
Whether they're far or near
you are waiting to hear.

Whenever, I'm lonely, whenever
I feel I am the only one who cries
You share my tears.

What I'm trying to say
is though we're apart
you're in my heart to stay
for you are my friend."

I've posted here AGES ago and no one knew.  I just thought I would try again.

Thanks!
Nice site!

How about some clues as to the style of the song or male/female singer etc.

I think they sound like a campfire song rather than something 'commercial'

Definitely commercial.  A male singer.  Sounds like either Supertramp, Little River Band or something similar.  Folkie sound with guitar only and man's voice.  I heard it on the radio many times throughout my youth but not on pop stations.

The Carpenters - Good Friends Are For Keeps

Hey now don't let your empty room ever get you down
You can fill the silence with a smile
And don't let the crowds on the street
Make you feel like you are just a stranger in town
If you feel happy,
Or if you wanna weep,
Or you wanna warm word before you sleep
Remember,
Good friends are forever
Good friends are forever
Good friends are for keeps

Good friends are forever
Good friends are forever
Good friends are for keeps

Okay, I guess I've let you suffer long enough, lol. :) Your "mystery song" is "Forever" by Orleans, a moderate adult contemporary hit here in the U.S. in the Fall of '79. (It failed to cross over to the pop chart.) It was off the group's 1979 album, also titled Forever. Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. I have the cassette myself... :)

BTW, the correct lyrics to the opening verse are:

"Forever
Good friends are forever
They never fade
Even when they're weathered by the years..."

Of course, Orleans was best known for their huge pop hits "Dance With Me" (Fall of '75), "Still the One" (Fall of '76), and "Love Takes Time" (Spring of '79)...

Saw the group in concert about 5 years ago. (And believe it or not, that night they were opening for, yep, America, lol!) Yep, they're still around, so catch 'em if you can! :)

Oh My God, thank you so much.  If this is the song, I will be overjoyed and happy and just elated.  I can't thank you enough.  Now to find someone with this song on mp3 so I can download.

Thanks and HUGS!
