Subject: Greenwhich Village & Haight Ashbury

Written By: AstringOfPoloponies on 05/18/03 at 04:36 p.m.

Was anyone there during the 70s ? I remember going shopping a lot in Greenwhich Village during the 70s. There were underground shops - they all had sand on the floor and most of them sold incense. Hippies teeming all over the place. It was probably my coolest memory from the past.

We used to go to Monkee Davy Jone's store.(That may have been in the 60s) It was called Zilch. They sold clothing and accessories. One time, my mom bought me a clothes hanger there which  was a photo of Mickey Dolenz in the shape of a hanger. Wish I had saved THAT !

I never even knew that the Haight Ashbury existed back than. I felt rather stupid because the only way I found out about the Haight was in 1979 when I was working on a production of Sweet Charity. Anyway, I would like to read peoples expereinces about one or the other or both.  8)
