Subject: The red balloon movie

Written By: Arcfire on 05/23/03 at 07:31 p.m.

Does anyone remember a movie they used to show in middle school called (I think) the red balloon, it was like a silent movie, no words were spoken just the sounds that were heard around boy who chased the balloon. Its one of those films that has haunted me, I never saw the ending and it seemed so sad.

I remember that. It was a short film-15 minutes or so. I think it also won a bunch of awards. I remember it was about this boy who had a red balloon that followed him everywhere. Haven't seen it in many decades.

Yeah !  I have not seen the movie, but as a small boy I had a book called "The Red Balloon".

As I recall, the boy's name was Pascal, and it was set in Paris.

Does this ring any bells ?

I loved that book !  :)

I remember that one.The movie is from 1959,so this thread actually belongs in the before 70s forum.Anyway,in the end some mean kids throw rocks at the balloon and it slowly 'dies'. :(They showed this at our elementary school all the time.Cheers!

It was kind of sad that balloon "died" but after that, all the balloons in the area went to the boy. He grabbed all of them and went floating up.
