Just so you know, I'm reviewing a lot of these songs "in retrospect" - I'm not that old!

1970 - Everything Is Beautiful - Ray Stevens
Apart from the twee beginning, a very good song. #6 here

1971 - Brown Sugar - Rolling Stones
Built around a dangerous guitar riff, did the Stones get any better after this? I'll let you decide! #2 here

1972 - I'll Take You There - Staple Singers
A classic tune! Every self-respecting 70's soul fan should have this and their previous single "Respect Yourself" #30 here

1973 - My Love - Paul McCartney & Wings
Try as I may, I cannot seem to like this song (sorry!) Appears that Macca was going on autopilot. #9 here

1974 - The Streak - Ray Stevens
Amazingly, the only transatlantic #1 in this list! I daresay I loved it at the time, seems a bit so-so now...Don't look Ethel!

1975 - Before The Next Teardrop Falls - Freddy Fender
Completely stiffed here...rather strange as by 1975, the UK was really getting into some country music. I "discovered" this about 10 years ago...not bad, if a bit maudlin.

1976 - Love Hangover - Diana Ross
Diana discovers disco! Good song...I especially like the slow build-up to where it gets going. #10 here

1977 - Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder
Great song! Great album! But like the Stones, was this where the rot started to set in? You decide! #2 here

1978 - Too Much Too Little Too Late - Deniece & Johnny
Much as I admire both singers' voices, the song goes off the scale for safe and bland. #3 here

1979 - Hot Stuff - Donna Summer
Marvellous disco tune...gained fresh life when it was used in "The Full Monty" . #11 here

I remember the Summer of '74 working at an overnight camp for kids, I was in charge of horseback riding.  My staff and I sang the Streak all day, "good afternoon ladies and gentlemen this is your eyewitness news reporter covering the disturbance at the supermarket, did you see what happened sir?  Yey ah did, I yelled over to ma wife, "Don't look Ethel, but it was too late, she'd already been MOONED!!!"  what a funny song, can't stop singing it now, look what you've done, I'm streaking through the office, yeehaaaa....!!!

Hi Paul!  I appreciate you taking the time to research these and tell us all how well they charted in the UK.  Thanks! ;)

I enjoyed your comments and, for the most part, agreed with what you had to say.  You sound like you're very objective and that's good!  How about we post a new list in another couple of weeks?  :)
