This was Peter Weir's (Witness, The Year of Living Dangerously) first feature film, filmed at a former 1860s gold mining town in western NSW. It's very obscure.
I doubt if it will be released on DVD anytime soon (or at all).

Yes it certainly is one of the more strange films of the 70's.  Mums sister and brother in law lived in Sofala at the time it was filmed and they got to be extra's in the zombie wing along with many other residents in town.

A couple of years ago during the Festival of Perth someone brought over a live version of it that was shown in a huge car park and it used heaps of old car wrecks etc.  I really wanted to go see it but it was sold out every night.

Yep.

This was one weird flick.  They are working on a DVD though.

I've heard it from a number of sources.  It's too much of a wacky cult movie for it not to be released sooner or later!
