Subject: Electric Light Orchestra

I love this group.

I liked the song Rockaria by ELO a lot!

Some of their songs were too disco-ish.  But still good.

They needed to do some more hard rock tunes.

Their last album Zoom didn't sell too well.

Jeff Lynne played all the instruments practically.  He shoulda brought all the old band mates back!  And did some harder rock songs.

Like Do Ya or Rockaria or Fire On High.  They released a new, big CD compliation and Fire On High was not on it!

Who here likes these dudes?

Well, count me in...

I remember not so long ago when actually admitting to "liking" ELO was something equivalent to an act of heresy. Of course, the passage of time smooths things out eventually...

I think I had (at one point) all their albums up to "The Balance Of Power" from 1986 (which I think turned me off) - but there's no denying there were some great tunes in their canon - even though some were a trifle indulgent...

If you've not done so, have a listen to their early stuff when they were really incorporating the classical stuff in their work. They released two LP's in 1971 and 1972 (both since re-issued) and although they may not quite be what you expect, they are worthwhile listens...

All the best!

i know what you mean about the early stuff

it takes some getting used to but on their cd compilation "afterglow" they put some song called:

10538 Overture

i enjoyed it, they performed it on a concert broadcasted on PBS here in the USA

they sounded great live...

they did this song called Indian Queen, a little demo on the new CD compilation

it didn't fit with the rest of the songs on the CD

they had this dumb flatulent song on there as well...it was just annoying, like they were trying to be Monty Python-esque

i like Python but it didn't fit with the other songs either

Indian queen should have been cleaned up and remastered and made into a full length song

instead of a crappy demo

they shoulda used the Indian Queen demo as an opening to a new version, an extended new version of Indian queen

like aerosmith used an old blues song on the end of their song Amazing

Flashback was the name of the new ELO compliation with indian queen on it

Love them.  My faves are Mr. Blue Sky, Can't Get it Out of My Head, and Midnight Blue.

I love ELO!  My favorite from them is "Strange Magic", but I also love "Telephone Line" and "Don't Bring Me Down".  They reformed in the 1980's and released the song "Calling America" which I also thought was quite good even though it didn't score high on the charts.  :D
