Subject: Evel Knievel Parody

Written By: cem8588 on 06/11/03 at 07:42 p.m.

I'm looking for a rare song that came out in the 70's that spoofed Evel Knievel.  I think it was called Evel Bol Weavel.

I may be wrong.   Does anyone else remember?  It had lyrics that were outtakes from popular songs at the time.

Thanks.

Your memory serves you well. :-) Correct spelling is "Evil Boll-Weevil", and was by a duo that called themselves Grand Canyon. It was a minor hit here in the U.S. in the Fall of '74. You're right, the novelty single is pretty rare today...

The song was what's known as a "break-in" record, meaning it sampled many different hits of the day. Although he wasn't the person behind "Evil Boll-Weevil", Dickie Goodman was the master of that genre...

Wow!  I'm amazed at the response to such a far-fetched question!  If I find it on a site, would you like to be notified of it's existance?

Sure - actually, I'm pretty sure I've never heard the song myself. :-) And to the best of my knowledge, "Evil Boll-Weevil" has never appeared on CD, but I could be wrong. A "Google" search revealed that the song is still occasionally played by Dr. Demento on his syndicated radio show (see link below)...
