Subject: TIZWAS

Hello everyone!

In Britain, a kid's show broke boundaries on Saturday mornings called 'TIZWAS!'

It starred Chris Tarrant, Lenny Henry, Bob Carolgees and the lady I can't remember. I shouldn't forget 'The Phantom Flan Flinger!'

Does anybody remember it? What did 'TIZWAS' stand for and can anybody tell me anything about it in general. I wish I was around for it - My dad said it was one of the best things on telly!

Oh yes, Bobby - one from the TISWAS generation, me...

Notice the spelling, there...it was TISWAS, which I think was an acronym for "Today Is Saturday, What A Shambles", or something like that!

It began in 1974 and was constrained to the ATV region of the ITV network (which covered Birmingham) - of the above, only Tarrant was around during this time.

The lady you mentioned was Sally James, who joined around the third series (which was broadcast nationwide by this point). Incredibly beautiful lady! If she could stir a nine/ten year old like me, imagine what she must have been doing to your dad!

It's total sense of anarchy was unheard-of on TV at the time, let alone on kids' TV. It was very much a product of its time, which is why so many people remember it.

There were a couple of retrospective videos available a few years back, I couldn't be sure if they're still available...

But there's plenty of stuff on the web...for a more comprehensive history of the show go to http://tv.cream.org/ and you'll find it under "T" (funnily enough!)

All the best!

Wow! Cheers for that PaulUk. Now I know why my dad was going on about it all the time. The only thing I've seen recently that's come halfway close to the madness that was TISWAS (thanks for the spelling) is 'Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow!' The wit is very cheeky and the sense of chaos is considerable - I dare you to watch it and tell me what you think.  :D
