I only have a handful. Some were giving to me and some I "inheirited" from my siblings-not too sure how I ended up with them. When I was old enough to start buying my own music, I bought albums. I still have plenty of those-but I need to fix the turntable so I can play them.  :(

AAAH YES!!!!  The good old turntable.  Thank God I still have my husbands old one.  It works great.  I will never part with that.  We had to get a needle for it.  We thought it would be impossible to find one, but one record store, believe it or not, carried needles for turntables.  I can play all my 45's and LP's anytime I want to.  Good luck on getting your turntable fixed.  Hope you can so you can play your records.

I think it just needs to be cleaned. There is a place not too far from here that will fix it. It is just a matter taking it there-which we have never gotten around to yet. I bought my stereo in 1990 and INSISTED that it had a turntable. (It also has a CD and a double cassette player too  ;D) I'm sure you can't buy a new stereo with a turntable these days. I'm glad I got it when I did.

I have about 15 of those little psychedelic record cases that hold 50 45's each - going back to 1970; also a bunch of earlier stuff that I bought at yard sales and the Salvation Army in the late 70s. And I have a turntable that can still play them, and I do.... I also recently got hold of an old hi-fi that plays 33s, 45s, 78s and 16s! :D

There is a store called Restoration Hardware.  They have turntables.

I don't think the ones I have are stackable. The handles get in the way... :-/ I have one home-made one that I made from a Tide box aand covered with phychedelic sticky wallpaper. It is 30 years old and still smells like Tide! :D

I tried to find a pic of what I was thinking of but, alas, I couldn't.  :(  I will try to discribe it. It had a flat bottom with a tube running in the middle (about a foot high or so-if that high). You stack the 45s up and then it had a cover to put over it-with a handle for carrying. They held about 50 records or so. I could be wrong on the amount. That is best why I can describe it.

I would never part with my 45 records.  I have a 45 record holding case.  I believe that it does hold 50 records, and you do have to stand them up straight.

I think I know what you are talking about. It was basically a box. This is the kind I have been thinking about (I finally found a pic)

I still have all of my old vinyl, and a lot of original 45s as far back as the late 50's. I'm currently in the process of restoring it and getting it onto CD. It's a long tedious process (i.e., restoration, remastering, burning the CD), but the finished results sound 100% better. And best of all, I still have the vinyl!

Circuit City still sells the single turntable.
I still have my stackable Sounddesign and I picked up a single play Sanyo as a backup as I play my records often. I've been collecting for years as I fell in love with album covers and the info that comes with them. I must have about 600 33's and a hundred or so 45's. I have all of Tony Bennetts 45's, and about a dozen boxed sets of ,whatever......
I played two very early Journey albums for a friend this morning and he didn't recognise them as they are preperry. Most of what I have is Classic Rock. Love It.

My 45's are TREASURE!!  My sis and I also got all my aunt's and uncle's old 45's from the 50's and 60's as well as the 70's.  We grew up playng DJ with those records on an ole red and white checked portable with case and handle.  To this day I can still sing all the words to "Indiana Wants Me"... and not without a degree of shame!!!  45's are also the ONLY way to listen to Bubblegum!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I personally enjoy listening to the crackles on an old record. In fact if I ever hear "Jimmy Loves MaryAnn (Playground in My Mind)" I think it sounds wrong if I don't hear the skips, "There is a playground in my mind...in my mind...in my mind..."
We also never listened to certain songs on the correct speed...ever.  Donny Osmond's "Lonely Boy" was highly enjoyable at high speed and we used to slow down Chris Montez's "Call Me" to see how much MORE incredibly tedious and boooooring we could make it.     :)

I must have 300 45s and probably close to 100 Lps.  I never listen to them anymore because I have the CDs of most of them.  I am a huge 70s fan and still listen to the music via XM and Sirius satellite radio.  How remembers putting a penny on the needle of the turntable to help correct any skipping that may be in the record?

You can get turntables pretty easily, because most major electronics stores carry them.

About 10 years ago, my turntable died and rather than replacing it, I gave all my old 45s and albums to a friend, who still has them.

I know they're nostalgic and all, but I don't really miss them.  You had to be too careful with them, couldn't jump or the record would skip, and besides, I have replaced all that I wanted to on CD.  But there are some fond memories from back then!

I still have all my moms old Elvis, Beatles, Temptations etc...some are even first edition. I even have one of those old long old cabinet radio and record players. my mother in law gave it to me...and on the corner is baby teeth marks where my husband had chewed on it as a baby.  That is the only reason I salvaged it ;)

I used to keep all my 45's but when I was a kid in the 60's I didn't take care of them and the static got to be too much.  Later, in the 70's, I started buying these songs on albums and now on CD, so I've given a lot away.  Still, I have maybe 50 left.  I've kept songs that I never could find on LP or CD.  Does anyone remember any of these:  You, I - The Rugbys (1969).  Quick Joey Small (68).  Medicine Man-The Buchanan Brothers (1969).  Skyscraper Commando and Mongoose by Elephant's Memory (1970-71).

I have plenty, but they're dusty and in some cases, downrite dirty.  We have an old jukebox, so when I was a kid we had to keep filling it up (50-slot).  (Doesn't work now, yet another project I need to restore.)  I still have alot of those same records, and they include old '50s my mom had, as well as 45s I bought in the '80s.  Probably most numerous is the '70s, when my sis and bro were teens and basically controlled it all....

And I always make sure I have a good phonograph on hand!

Sure you can.  In fact, I'll bet there's not 1 electronics place you can't see 1.  In the early-to-mid-'90s, they were impossible to get.  Now, tho, it seems there's always at least 1 choice whether it's Wal-Mart or Tweeters.

I still have my cheap stereo my sis gave me as a present leaving high school, complete w/turntable.  It had a CD hook-up, but I never used it until this last month (that's oh, 16 years of dust - it works!) I got a CD player w/the wires.

When I moved out of state, I felt badly I left my parents w/o a turntable.  So I thought, great Xmas present, I'll just get them 1 - horrible time searching but I was persistent.  This was '95.  I finally found 1 at a Wal-Mart 50 mi away (the local called around for me).  It's cheap too, but it still works.  I also found a stereo specialty shop that had several kinds and advised me, but it didn't help cuz they were just components, and I wanted a whole system pretty cheap.  But they did have them!

When I returned home late '90s, suddenly I start spotting turntables in every store.  Don't it figure!
