OK, not like too many people here would care  ::), but today 30 years ago
(July 13, 1973) was released the self-titled debut album by one of my favourite bands - QUEEN.

I like Queen, Rock Princess.

I don't listen to them much these days (I blame that on a former obsessive flat-mate) but I like them - I'm starting to sound like Dick Emery, someone slap me!  ;D

Apologies for that, RP! Most of the retro-music papers seem to be concentrating on just one anniversary at the moment - that of the Rolling Stones first single release in July 1963!

Looking through my bundles of rubbish, I find that "Keep Yourself Alive" was also issued around the same time as the LP, but it sadly died a death...also, one month previous, Freddie was having a solo attempt with "I Can Hear Music" under the guise of Larry Lurex! No takers there, either!

But what did surprise me was that album was entirely recorded in studio down-time (i.e., whenever the band could get a chance) - for that alone, it stands as a fitting testament of hard work eventually gaining just rewards...

That album (oh God, I remember receiving it on vinyl as a birthday gift several days later... Vinyl!) always came to mind when we talked about "If you were stranded on a desert island with only ten records..." I have it on CD now and it still sounds good.
