- (They Long To Be) Close To You - Carpenters - sheer, unadulterated class - with few exceptions, they rarely made a duff track...

- Indian Reservation - Paul Revere & The Raiders - who, in my opinion, made much better records in their heyday...good sentiments, but I never really liked the song that much - Don Fardon had the hit here...

- Lean On Me - Bill Withers - more class from a very under-rated soul singer, did well here, but Club Nouveau did better - which is nothing short of unforgivable...!

- Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce - If anyone had the cruellest twist of fate lumped on 'em, it was this guy...absolutely tragic...not his very best, but very good...Frank Sinatra, in order to get more "with it", did a version of this in which he sounded hopelessly out of his depth...!

- Annie's Song - John Denver - ...is his only solo hit here notwithstanding the string of hits in his homeland, and so he remains a one-hit wonder! Amazing! A bit twee, but okay...

- The Hustle - Van McCoy - huge, and I mean HUGE, hit across dancefloors everywhere...there was no escape...great song which still sounds good today...

- Kiss And Say Goodbye - Manhattans - ...more monologue than song by that man with the BIG voice...a bit ho-hum, these days - but listenable...

- Looks Like We Made It - Barry Manilow - I like Barry Manilow! There! I said it! But - however pleasant this song may be - it still doesn't rank with his best...didn't stand a chance here...

- Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb - ...still there after how long?! As I've said before, okay - but not his best...

- Bad Girls - Donna Summer - ...disco thumper with "ladies of the night" thrown in as a bonus - not as good as the previous biggie, "Hot Stuff"...
