Subject: What was in like when "Garfield" first came out?

Written By: Andrew-1972 on 12/31/03 at 09:33 a.m.

8) When the "Garfield" comic strip came out in 1978?
Did anyone like it at first, years ago, I didn't like Garfield or any other comic strips, but a friend got me interested.
I'll be first in line on June 18,2004

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!

Garfield was funny in the first few years because he did cat-like things.  He was what would happen if you could read your cat's thoughts.  Jim Davis ran out of funny ideas in the early '80s, just as Garfield fever was taking hold.  With huge popularity came a family-oriented cutsiness and inanity.  Seems to me the original Garfield died in 1983 and the new Garfield became a toy store icon.

What's happening on June 18?

What can you do with Garfield?  Fritz the Cat?  I always assumed Garfield was neutered.  He had that fat 'n sassy look, and he couldn't get any of the lady cats interested in him.  ;D

I always loved garfield, but I think he started going down in 1997 myself.  That's when he stopped eating lasagna, kicking Odie off the table, etc.. I think the cartoonist is becoming as lazy as Garfield now, lol
