Subject: suede ankle boots (what were they called?)

Written By: Corey on 01/04/04 at 03:55 p.m.

My kids are watching a movie about the 70's.   They really like the boots the guys are wearing.  I had a pair, but can't remember what we called them...They were suede and looked great with jeans.  I really don't think we called them chuka boots.  Can U help?

Were they lace-ups?  Then I'd call them desert boots.

If they were slip on then pixie boots (but they were more of a girls thing)

Yep, the lace ups were called desert boots, or sometimes (for some strange reason) moon boots.

They became really big because the 6 Million Dollar man wore them, and all the kids had to have them! when I was in the 6th. Grade in 1979, almost every boy in the class had them. ;D

It's funny that you mentioned them, because last week I decided to get some new shoes and I was trying to find a pair of them, because they were really comfortable.

Yep, they were desert boots, I wore them all the time. Actually for the past three years they had something similar for sale at Walmart, in the womens shoes section. They're probably not available right now, the carry them in the late summer and early fall. They had them in dark tan, light tan and black.

Thanks...yeah they were desert boots.  We looked on-line and they are available.  Now there are 2 versions though...The ones we remember from the 70's and the new version (unfortunatley) Desert Boots...the Middle East War version...***GOD BLESS AMERICA***

The boots I think your referring to were called Lil Abner, I had a pair back in High School in the mid 70's.

I think they were called something different depending on what part of the country you're from.  I called them chuka boots in Mississippi, my husband called them wallaby's in California.
