Subject: Weird movie countdown lady

Written By: stefchu on 01/21/04 at 11:17 p.m.

Does anybody remember when they would show us movies at school? The movies came on reels of film, and were shown on projectors. Anyway, there was a countdown of numbers before the opening titles (I think the numbers 10 to 1 were shown going backwards). Anyway,I remember seeing several movies in the 6th,7th,and 8th grades that showed a brief image of a woman's face in between the number countdown sequence. I remember several of my classmates saying "Did you just see a pretty girl's face" or something to that effect. I know I am not nuts, and I know it also was not just in my school district, because a friend of mine who grew up in a different city, remembers this strange woman's image too. Does anybody else remember her?  :oThanks! Sincerely,Steve.

I helped run film projectors in the late 70's and was an A.V. geek in the early 80's and i've watched hundreds of those old 16mm films (my favourite was "Rise and Fall of the Great Lakes").  I don't recall seeing any woman's face during the countdown sequence.  But then, most of what we had were Film Board Of Canada stuff that circulated widely among schools.

Were you puttin' somthing in your Kool-Aid back then?  :D

I remember watching campy educational films in the '70s, I definitely remember that weird countdown lady!  My father was an administrator in a school system with a large film library.  We had a projector at home, so he used to bring a lot of those films home for us.  We tried to predict whether or not the countdown lady would appear in a given film! :D

Thanks Maxwell. Now I have proof that my friend and I were not seeing things. Other people saw, and remember, the weird, but beautiful, movie countdown lady!  ;D Sincerely,Steve.
