Ok so me and my roommate were having a little argument: who sang the Joker first? Tom Petty or Steve Miller Band?

Unfortunately I haven't got a definite answer for you but whichever of you thinks it was the Steve Miller Band, I'm with you.

I'm pretty sure it was the Steve Miller band, they were around befor Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

I didn't know that Tom Petty ever did a cover of Joker..."Some call me the space cowboy.." right?...or are we speaking of something else?
If TP did a cover let me know...

See she was sayin that Tom Petty's been around just as long as Steve Miller Band.  But I insist that it's Steve Miller Band's song because in the first verse he makes references to some of his other songs:  "Space Cowboy" and "Ganster of Love"
