Subject: Does anyone remember The Electric Company?

Written By: radiopapa1964 on 02/22/04 at 08:59 p.m.

I loved this show SO much and printed histories of it from the internet. It wasn't until Driving Miss Daisy that I realized Easy Reader was Morgan Freeman. Rita Moreno, who is one of my favorite actresses (West Side Story, Cosby Mysteries, Nanny), was also in it as was Bill Cosby (first season). I also enjoyed the Short Circus singing group ;D

I sure do! Who can forget the live action Spiderman segments, the "Adventures of Letterman" cartoons,Easy-Reader,Jennifer of the Jungle, and her pet gorilla Paul, and of course, the "Silent E" song.  ;D I can still vaguely remember some of the songs that the Short Circus sang,as well. I will post more "Electric Company" memories,in the near future! Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

Yeah the Electric Company ruled.   8)

My favorite part was the series they did on it called "The Chair", where they showed a chair that did nothing, but had an announcer say things like "The chair is in the middle of the room".

As I recall there was this brunette babe on the Electric Company (not Rita Moreno) who was Waaaaaaay hot.  I wonder what her name is and what she is doing now?  :-/

I used to love "Jennifer of the Jungle". Denise Nickerson was part of Short Circus and was in Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory (she was the one who blew up into a blueberry) and Dark Shadows.

I have a CD of Tom Lerher that has "Silent E" and "L-Y"

Someone mentioned "the chair".

If I remember correctly, there was a boy sitting in the chair in the original skits:

"The boy is sitting in the chair.  Why is the boy sitting in the chair? .... and, what about Naomi?"

It went on for weeks , maybe months like that.  It was always the last skit of every episode.  One week, the boy got up, threw his hat down, and walked out.  From then on, it was just a skit with a chair.

Kind of wierd, actually.

You know I am trying to search for The Electric Company on either DVD or VHS.The only thing I got was on ebay where someone was bidding on a $26.00-15-episode cassette tape.I would like to buy it to make my childhood memories complete. So far I have Mr.Rogers Sesame Street & hopefully soon...Electric Company! The reason CTW decided not to sell the episodes was because they thought people would start bootlegging which was illegal to do so.I mean, how in the hell can you sell a copy of a vintage 27 year old children's television show that people grew up on watching? That's ridiculous! After Noggin took it off the air,I wanted to get my hands on a copy from 1976-1977  :D

Some skits I really remember. There was one with a lost and found, people were coming to it saying what they lost, and they got it back, and one guy (I think Morgan  Freeman) came to the Lost and Found and was yelling, saying "I lost my TEMPER!" LOL

There was another skit that had a hole in the ground with a sign that said "Watch out for the hol", and it was all about the "e" missing from the sign.

These were not "regular skits", but they satnd out for some reason.
