Subject: Does anyone remember this 70's movie?

Written By: EnvyAnsand on 03/05/04 at 07:36 p.m.

It was a made for tv movie that took place around the turn of the century in a small town very similar to Walnut Grove from Little House on the Prarie. The plot had something to do with a replanted school teacher who discovers the townspeople can fly, but doing so in front of outsiders was strictly forbidden. The set had a Walton's feel and I think there was another storyline going on aswell but I don't remember. ???

I do remember that. I think it was called "The People" and it had William Shatner in it.

"The People" turn out to be humanoid extraterrestrials, and they're really nervous about Earth's humans finding out!  Based on Zenna Henderson's book, "The People: No Different Flesh," this TV movie was directed by John Korby, who has about 30 other TV movies to his credit at present.
Henderson was a schoolteacher herself, so her main character is also a teacher.  As well as Shatner, "The People" also stars Kim Darby, who had a role in "The Streets of San Francisco," and -- among other things -- played Lane Myer's mother in "Better Off Dead."
