Subject: Who remembers and/or took "The Pepsi Challenge"?
These were a series of commercials on tv during the late 70's. They would blindfold people. and give them two styrofoam cups. One cup had Pepsi inside it,and the other one had Coke. They claimed a very high percentage of the participants said the cup with the Pepsi tasted better. I took the "Pepsi Challenge" rather late in the campaign,circa 1981,and I surprisingly chose Pepsi. Does anybody remember these ads? Does anybody remember participating at a shopping mall, or a grocery store? :D Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

I actually never saw that going on around here (except for the commercials of course). This topic gave me a flashback though...I remember in the late 70's (or maybe 1980) Pepsi had a thing goin' on where they had letters under the bottle caps, & you had to spell something. Was it "Pepsi Challenge"? The more I think about it I think you had to spell "Pepsi Generation". I'm not sure...but I do remember me & everybody I knew needed a letter "A". lol

I remember taking that.They would ask you to give a taste test to see which is better and I didn't think that both sodas were tasty.soda is soda. :D

Wow! I almost forgot about the bottle-caps having the prize numbers on the back!!! ;D I too remember being disappointed when I didn't get certain letters I needed to win the prize!!! :( I seem to remember that the quality of the prizes they gave away in Cracker Jack, and cereal boxes, were of higher quality than the ones they give away now. Captain Crunch used to give away such cool toys in his cereal boxes! LOL! :D Didn't life seem so much easier,not to mention fun in those days? I remember the most stressful things back then was worrying about how much homework I had to bring home, what mom was making for dinner,and what was on tv. By the way,does anybody remember when they gave away toy prizes in potato chip bags? Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

We took the Pepsi Challenge, and we picked Coke, of course. They just didn't show anyone who picked Coke on Pepsi commercials, as Bill Cosby pointed out!

I also took the Pepsi Challenge at a food fair in Seattle. I chose Coke and the Pepsi people just kind of starred at me and didn't say thanks for taking the challenge, or anything. I watched and a few others didn't choose Pepsi and they got the same cold shoulder, just can't explain the funky feeling I got from taking the challenge:P

I first took the Pepsi Challenge in a different decade (1990's). I can tell the difference between all variants of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. I took one sip from my first cup and correctly identified it as Coke Classic and pointed out the other one was Pepsi. They made me take a sip from the second cup and I made a gagging look on my face and said, yeah.. that's gotta be Pepsi. ;D Much to their discontent I had properly identified it correctly. Those mindless drones from Pepsi (the Taste-Tester Hosts) didn't find any humour in the situtation. The ba$tard$ didn't even give me a prize! >:(

I took the Pepsi challenge, I was with a class on a field trip but I can't remember where! We were outside and Pepsi was there in a truck , like a lunch truck type, and I remember standing in line and being handed the 2 cups, I remember they were clear plastic ones, and I picked Pepsi.
This is kind of funny, because I am more of a Coke drinker now! But I will take Pepsi if I can't get Coke.

Ah, yes, I remember that one well. :-) Actually, all you had to spell was "C-H-A-L-L-E-N-G-E". (The "Pepsi Generation" slogan came later.) Yes, the "A" was the rare one. It was 1980, and that was the first of many bottle cap contests launched by both Pepsi and Coke. In fact, it was the "Pepsi Challenge" that launched the infamous "cola wars" of the '80s! At any rate, I was an avid Pepsi drinker at the time, and collected well over 100 bottle caps from that "Challenge" contest - never did find that elusive "A", though. ;-) And yes, I still have all of those 24-year-old caps packed away in a box! (Okay, I'm a pack-rat, lol.) I wonder what a set (minus the "A") would bring on eBay today? :-)

Ah yes...""C-H-A-L-L-E-N-G-E"! I remember back then my dad, & my best friend's dad both worked at Pepsi, & we had Pepsi bottles everywhere! Still didn't have any luck with the "A". :P
