Subject: Bizarre episode of Little House on the Prairie...

Written By: EnvyAnsand on 03/10/04 at 03:34 p.m.

I know I’m not imagining this; I remember a strange episode of Little House on the Prairie and I’m wondering if anyone else caught it. I saw it when it originally aired either in the late 70’s or early 80’s and have not seen it since then. The story began with Charles leaving Walnut Grove for a long period of time to work on the railroad with his friend, Isaiah. Charles had a strong bond with his daughter (possibly Carrie or one of the other Ingalls kids that joined the cast after Mary and Laura grew up) and this daughter had a difficult time dealing with his absence. The daughter (I’ll just call her Carrie) was in the woods one day picking strawberries and apparently suffering from separation anxiety shrank in size to about 1/2 inch. The rest of the story is kind of fuzzy, but I remember the strawberry plants were suddenly the size of trees and the strawberries the size of Volkswagen Beetles. Somewhere along the line Carrie met another tiny person (?) and they became friends. At one point, she was attacked by a giant spider. Does this ring a bell? It was very trippy.  ???

Sounds more like an episode of Land of the Lost.  ;)

Yes, I remember that episode! I would have forgotten it completely had you not brought it up. Mentioning the giant spider scene triggered off my memory! I don't seem to recall them re-running that episode either. I wonder why?  Maybe because "Little House" was a family show, and too many parents complained that their kids found this particular episode too scary?  ??? I also remember one episode where the mother was feeding the youngest daughter scrambled eggs. She kept saying things like "Come on Grace,be a good girl for mommy, and eat your eggs!" The kid kept shaking her head no,and would close her mouth to prevent the spoon with eggs to get inside her mouth. After several minutes of begging and pleading, the mom said "Why won't you eat your eggs?" The little actress who played Grace says,"I ate my eggs at home before I came to the studio!"  :o This scene was DEFINITELY cut out when I saw the very same episode as a rerun, a few months later. Oh my God! I have to get out of the house more often! I am having "Little House on the Prarie" flashbacks! LOL!  Thanks for the memories!  :DSincerely,Steve.

Thanks for the info! I'm sure thats the episode. It must have been an attempt to boost ratings, although I don't think it worked considering hardly anyone remembers it.

cheers! :)  :D   ;D
