Subject: 70's actors and actresses with hit songs

Written By: eightiesfan on 03/15/04 at 08:13 a.m.

David Cassidy - had hits both solo and with the Partridge Family name

Shaun Cassidy (Hardy Boys) - Da Doo Run Run and several others

Steve Martin - King Tut

David Soul (Starksy & Hutch) - Don't Give Up On Us Baby (liked Owen Wilson's rendition of it in the movie too because he has such a beautiful voice)

There was a disco song called "More, More , More", I do not remember the singer, but she was a porn star . The words talk about "get the cameras rollin', get the action goin'" and allude to her porn career! She sings "More, more, more! How do like it?, How do you like it?"

I just remember a couple of child actors from 70's tv shows who went on to singing careers: Brandon Cruz, from Courtship of Eddie's Father and Robbie Rist, cousin Oliver from The Brady Bunch.

There was also Donny & Marie Osmond of course, Leif Garrett (who was on Family), and Janet Jackson (Good Times)

"More More More" was sung by Andrea True, and she most definitely was a porn star.

"Love to Love Ya Baby" was a porn-sounding tune by Donna Summer, who was NOT a porno star.

...Both of these songs were part of a mid-70's "groan and moan" song fad, which also included songs like "Tonight's the Night" by Rod Stewart", and "Lady Blue" by Leon Russell.

In the early-to-mid 70's, hard-core porno movies were becoming more and more popular, with real, well known "stars" like Linda Lovelace, John Holmes, Harry Reems, and Marilyn Chambers (the Ivory Snow girl).  So somebody got the idea that "porn chic" was something that the pop music world needed to have.  :-/

The girl moaning in the background on Rod Stewart's Tonight's the Night was his then girlfriend Britt Ekland - after they broke up he wrote a song about it called You're In My Heart.

ok, this wasnt exactly a hit but for some reason my brain has stored the song "whats a girl to do" sung by sondra locke in one of the "everywhich way you can" movies." it's interesting how I can remember useless info like this but sometimes have trouble remembering my own phone number.

Of course, some groups who had established themselves as recording artists parlayed their success into variety shows throughout the 70's, such as Sonny and Cher, Tony Orlando and Dawn, and a very short-lived series by the one-hit wonder group that did Afternoon Delight (their show featured a then-unknown named David Letterman).

Now I remember the name of the group: it was Starland Vocal Band

Benny Hill had a Top 40 hit in the UK around 1971 - I think it was called Ernie the Milkman or something like that.  :D

john belushi and dan aykroyd hold the record for the #1 blues album of all time. the saturday night live sketch of jake and elwood blues, the blues brothers, with their hit soul man was a huge success. they openned for steve martin's show and brought the house down. because of this sucess of briefcase full of blues, they went on to make the blues brothers movie, a comedy classic that was filmed in 1979 but came out in 1980. it was very 70s however. the film features such acts as cab calloway, ray charles, aretha franklin, james brown, john lee hooker etc...

soul man was performed on saturday night live on november 28, 1978 during the carrie fisher episode, where the blues brothers were the actual musical guest (dan and john were both cast members 1975-1979).

briefcase full of blues - 1978
soundtrack - 1980
made in america - 1981

unfortunately john adam belushi passed away on march 5, 1982 at the age of 33 from a speedball overdose.

danny aykroyd currently is performing with jim belushi (john's brother), and sometimes john goodman.

danny aykroyd also owns the house of blues and portions of hard rock cafe.

Briefcase Full of Blues is an excellent album. For all of you who think the "Blues Brothers" is more of a comedy act (because of the noted comedic actors), this album is very much about the music. Rubber Biscuit is funny but the rest of the album is GOOD music.

A side note, I must admit I LOVED the way they did the theme to Rawhide in their movie. That was great.

I just remembered one more: David Naughton, who sang the Dr Pepper jingles, had a big hit in '79 with Makin It and was on a short-lived tv series of the same name - he later appeared on My Sister Sam.
