Subject: Movie I saw--or what it a dream?
You guys have been so HELPFUL in helping me learn/remember more about the stuff from my childhood...I just have one more:
I KNOW I saw a movie in the theaters when I was 9 or 10 (1978) that was called "Darcey" or something like that. It was about a young boy that was travelling in a plane over a deserted area with his grandfather. While the boy is sleeping, the grandfather has a heart-attack and the plane crashes. The boy is left stranded in this sandy, deserted area with heat and scorpions. I remember he got some kind of exotic egg and fried it on a flat stone that was hot from the sun. I remember he was bit by a scorpion, became blind and some guru like guy showed up and made a kind of spittle that when place on the boy's eyes brought his sight back.
Reading over this it does sound like some kind of child's weird dream, but I remember it and liked it, but I have NEVER been able to find the right title or any information about it.

I think you're talking about a movie called "Dirkie" (or "Lost in the Desert" as it was called in the US) It came out in 1969. Does this sound familiar? :)

OMIGOD ! you described it exactly as I remember it !! The scorpion never left my memory !
We showed it as a support movie at our drive in in the early 70's.

D I R K I E ! ! You guys are incredible! Now that I think about it, I saw it in 1979, but it was at a family theater that ran a myriad of movies, not just new releases--so it probably was made in 1969.
Because of that movie, I used to think that if you were actually asleep during a car or plane accident then you would live (because Dirkie did, of course).
Thanks again to you all. It is so amazing retrieving all these memories...how fun.
