Subject: Sugar Mama!! My Ultimate Favorite Candy...

Written By: Hairspray on 03/30/04 at 11:01 p.m.

...to which I finally found a picture!!  :D

Hardly anyone believed me or remembered when I told them of a Sugar Daddy pop with chocolate covering.

It's a gosh-darn shame they were discontinued in the 1980's. :'(

Here it is anyway for those interested:

I remember those...they were good.  Chocolate makes everything better.  Wonder why they were discontinued, I thought they were better than the Sugar Daddys.

I'm sure that is the case with most caramel candies, Howard.

I'm researching whether or not these are still available, as they are very similar to Sugar Mamas.

Though apparently not yet available, there's still hope Black Cow candy will be available in the future.

The best info I could find:

Gilliam Candy Brands (Gilliam, Pearson) Purchases Clark Brands

Pittsburgh, PA -- Clark Bar America is divesting itself of the Bun, Slo Poke and Black Cow brands in what the company calls a "strategy to focus all of its resources on its flagship brands."

The company has completed the sale of both the Slo Poke and Black Cow brands to Gilliam Candy Brands, which is researching markets before announcing its own plans for the brands.

"We're moving quickly," explains Gilliam President Brian Duwe, "hoping to begin reintroducing customers to Slo Poke by early fall, if not sooner."

In addition, Clark has an agreement in principle to sell its Bun brand to Pearson Candy Co.

"Bun, Slo Poke and Black Cow are strong brands that match Pearson's and Gilliam's line of products," says Clark CEO Archie Strimel. "Finalizing the sale of Bun, Slo Poke and Black Cow are important steps towards allowing us to concentrate on our flagship brands."

The sale of these brands is only part of Clark's 1998 plans. According to the company, it will be investing heavily in new equipment and technologies to further improve the efficiencies of making its Clark and Yoo-hoo brands.

Thanks hairspray for finding the old memory of black cow....I wouldn't be surprised if they developed a 'YooHoo' bar!
The article of interest mentioned 1998, so they may be a little behind on the resurgence?

I wrote someone from a candy discussion board that was last posted 2000 but the mail was sent back, so I guess they'll never know the answer to the black cow question.

I'll look to see if there were any wrappers for cherry cow-which also was a cherry taffy pop?

Eat on!

I don't remember Mama.  I really like Daddy and Babies though.  I bet Mama was good if it had chocolate on it.  Chocolate makes everything better.  ;D
