Subject: hey virginia??

Written By: Lisa on 10/28/2000 at 11:22 p.m.

I remember some of the lyrics, and I think the song was called "Hey Virginia" or perhaps just "Virginia", but I don't know who sang it, so I can't look for it to buy the cassette/CD/whatever I can get it on. Bear with me--I was about six when I heard this. Here's what I remember...
"...Hey, Virginia, I know it'll come out right when I look into your eyes, it's something in you...
...babe, believe me, the only time I fall apart is when I hear you make those sounds, don't ever leave me. When you're around...
...every time you say wait, oh I think my belt (?) will break. Virginia, try to feel like you, try to feel like you. Like you, like you do, like you do..."
*Please* (this is driving me insane and it's not a long trip!)does *anyone* know who sang this song? I think I remember that it was Bill something or other, but...well, I was only six and a first name like Bill isn't much help.

For a relatively obscure song, your memory serves you well. Your "mystery song" is "Virginia (Touch Me Like You Do)" by Bill Amesbury, a moderate hit here in the U.S. in the Spring of '74. (Amesbury was Canadian, and the song would prove to be his only hit here in the States.) It was off his 1974 album, "Jus' a Taste of the Kid". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S...
