Written By: The Minister's Cat on 3/17/2001 at 12:18 p.m.

The other day,my neice (who's and my nephew (who's 12) were watching the new version of "Zoom". I told them about the original version I used to watch as a kid in the '70's. They didn't believe there WAS another version!

Why does a smiley face replace the number eight? Are you superstitious?

It's Chucky G's fault. The message board read a smiley face with glasses when he followed the number 8 with a right parenthesis. Apparently, Chucky G set it up this way…

That's cool.8) Is there a code for smiley face on this site? I see people put them on this board all the time and I thought it was from their personal computer. Also, what is LOL? Anyone? Thanx.

: 8" Ok, it isn't working for me. Right parenthesis? I'm so computer illiterate. Sorry.

This is what I did the first time and it didn't work for me and so I tried the quotation mark thinking that some people mess those up. Still, I got no smile for my . So thank you for typing the symbol. I guess I'm doing it right so well see if it posts as a smiley.

Back to the original question, how do you make all the different smileys an this board?

Thanx.

It didn't work the first time because you didn't have a space between your period and your 8.

LOL means laugh out loud.

The different smileys, that I know are [which is : ) without a space.] [which is : ( without a space.] [which is ; ) without a space.] [which is : O without a space.] [which is : D without a space.] [This one you know.]

There may be a few more.

I could swear ChuckyG posted a link or something over on the '80s board when he made some changes to all of the boards about a year ago, showing not only how to make all of the different smileys, but also how to underline words in your posts, italicize them, make them bold, etc., but now I can't find it!

Oh, and you forgot this one, TX: [which is : b without a space].

I found a post where he mentioned the new software.

He put "check out the help link for a full list of stuff you can do with the new formatting stuff."

The link in his post goes to his home page. So I'm not sure what the "help link" is.

Here is a link to his post about the software:

YES! That was the post from ChuckyG that I was referring to, TX! (Thanks!) And in re-reading it, I realized where that darn link was that he was talking about (and is the one I remembered checking out just after he left that post on the '80s board last July). The "Help" link is the one found on the far right side of the grey (shaded) bar just above the words "Message Index" on all three boards! Whew! This was driving me nuts, LOL!

Oh, and BTW, there are a total of 10 different smileys - so yeah, we forgot a few others...
