Subject: hand held games

Written By: ron on 3/17/2001 at 7:31 p.m.

i'm looking for those little electronic hand held games that i use to take to middle school (in the late 70s)till a teacher took it off me.
i cant remember the name or maker.
the games were football, soccer?, hockey?
it was a small led screen with 3 or 4 rows (up to down)and were played by moving slots across the screen (left to right)
it had a beeping sound you could shut off with a switch.
i know.......
not much info but i would appreciate any help in figureing out the name/ maker so i can know what i'm looking for

thanks

I know exactly which ones you're talking about! I had the football one myself back in the late '70s. After a while, it wasn't that hard to master. I forget the exact name, but the maker was Mattel Electronics. (And yeah, they made 'em for several sports.) I remember selling mine for just a couple bucks at a garage sale back around the mid '80s. It's funny you should bring this up now, because about two months ago, I was on eBay, and stumbled across someone selling the exact same football one I had, and it was original. (Could tell from the pic the seller provided.) The final price on eBay??? About $75! (D'oh!)

I Love U. It was a mattell football game. You could hear part of it in the Supertramp Logical Song. Also you might check Coleco or Colecovision. I am trying to find their games as well. Let's help each other or at least chat about the games. Brett.

I still have my green Electronic Football 2. I remember my step-bro had an off-white version (prob'ly the Elec Ftbl 1) before I got mine. I think there was an Electric Quarterback or something also.

I had a Baseball and Basketball version as well, but no longer. Not sure what happened to the Basketball, but the Baseball was left in the magazine compartment on the back of a seat on an airplane in the mid-80s. Damn layover/changing planes in Chicago or Minneapolis/St Paul or somewhere. I was a kid flying alone! I realized it was gone about 10 minutes into the next flight. What a sad summer that was!
