further proof I need to sit down and clean up the messageboard software is the thread about smilies.. at least it didn't take too long to find it >grin< I wonder why the old link didn't work.. must be moving too much stuff around..

I'm actually thinking it would be better to oursource the messageboard software to Ultimate Bulletin Board or something.. this stuff just isn't easy enough for people to use.. unfortunately UBB is pretty darn expensive and hard to setup..

Don't change a thing!! The board is fine just the way it is, very user friendly. Kinda like that old pair of Nikes that you've had for 3 or 4 years - there may be some newer ones that look better, but yours are so comfortable that you just don't care. Okay, probably not the best analogy, but still...

Actually, ChuckyG, I like the way this board looks & works - a LOT! Very easy to use, IMO, and I find the feature about the exact number of posts left since your last visit VERY helpful & time-saving! (Also like the "e-mail notification" feature; of the various sites w/ mb's that I visit, this is the only place that offers that option.) Heck, even the "Search" feature comes in handy every now & then. I was just a little lazy, I guess, about trying to find your old post on the '80s board from last July, which TX took the time to do. Instead, I only scanned the main mb page, and somehow missed the "Help" link the first time - I knew it was there somewhere, LOL!

I've been hanging out on a high traffic site lately (when I should probably be doing my work) and started getting used to the UBB style.. which is why it started running through my head to change it...

the whole reason I went with this software originally, was to get rid of some of the spammers I was having a hard time squashing (like two years ago now)..

I think the biggest problem with the software as it stands, is that it's not very well laid out as far as the display for configuration options.. I think there should be something to show people they can configure the software more easily.. and a better description of what the different messageboard styles are supposed to be..

that and a more visible link to the smilies page >grin< which you'll notice I never use anyways.. still stuck in 1986 BBS speak
