Subject: Microwave dinners

Written By: Karl on 7/13/2001 at 3:39 p.m.

Here's a silly question to drive you nuts. It's been driving me nuts too...

In the late 70s or early 80s there was a line of frozen microwave dinners that came in little rectangular tan-colored plastic trays. The meals came with a plastic lid that you snapped over the tray, pushed the little vent tabs in, and microwaved.

People always saved the little plates afterwards to reheat other things in. They reminded you of airline food trays.

What were they called???!!!??? ,.. it wasn't Lean Cuisine or Budget Gourmet... it was before that.

Wasn't it something like... "Le XXXXX"

That would be "Le Menu". I believe they were most popular during the early to mid '80s. They also made some that used these white round plastic plates that measured 8" across (as did some of their competitors). Although several are now cracked near the edge, after 15+ years, I still have some of those plastic plates that I use in the microwave! Okay, call me frugal...
