Subject: THE 70s

Written By: Carrie on 7/25/2001 at 2:14 a.m.

the 70s to me is a generation where people my age are ridiculed for liking, whether it be music or movies, whatever. i understand that no one can know what it was like to live in the 70s unless you actually did, but i do know one thing. the people on this board, whether you intend to or not, totally glorify the 70s. i may be young, but i know that with the good comes the bad. everyone seems to look back on every generation with rose coloured glasses. i agree, good music and movies did come out of the 70s, but horrible music and movies also did. a lot of people in here seem almost fearful to say anything bad about the 70s, but i know there wouldve been a lot of bad things about them. thats basically what im trying to say.

What exactly are you trying to say here? What is wrong with the 70's? People usually try to remember good things about each decade but it seems like you are just looking for the bad. Why not try thinking positive for once!

Oh, and you say lots of bad music came out of the 70's? Well have you listened to any of the stuff that came out in the last 10 years? Most of that is what I would truly call awful music.

Of course there was bad in the 70's, as with any other time period. But when people reminisce and talk about nostalgia, which is what people tend to do on a 70's forum, they think about the good things, and sometimes even the bad seems not so bad. Also, through my rose colored glasses, a lot of the horrible things from the 70's are better than a lot of the good things from the 80's, 90's, and beyond. Just my opinion.

There was a lot of great music in the '70s and a lot of drugs too. At least the drugs then were more likely to put your Twinkies in danger instead of your life -at least among the people I knew. I don't think any of us who were teens or young adults have glorified the time of our youth anymore than any other generation. If memory serves we were all a little upset about that war in Southeast Asia and I don't think we've forgotten any of that. The later '70s weren't bad either --with Lynryd Skynyrd, Eagles, etc. as far as music went. I thought we were going somewhere a little more enlightened as a country and then we had the'80s.Let's just say "trickle-down economics" trickled our butts to the bottom.Maybe I might glorify it for those reasons -also that is time my children were born and that is always a special time for anyone.
