Subject: Whatever happened to.......

Written By: James Martin on 8/30/2001 at 11:39 a.m.

I've been a lot of Match Game & Tattletales on the GSN & there was an interesting couple that was really hilarious. There name were Patti Deutch & her husband writer/sometimes comedian Donald Ross. They were funny, unusual, & loving. But, by the 80's, they disappeared without a trace. Can anyone give me any info on them still being alive??????? This has been puzzling me for a long time & I was wodering if anybody has an a answer. PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!!!!!!!

For the last couple of years, Patti has been the spokes-voice for the radio commercials for M&M Meat Shops up here in Canada.

I've been enjoying watching all the old episodes of "Match Game" on "GSN" over the last couple of years as well, although I personally find Patti Deutsch somewhat annoying. (Fannie Flagg is definitely my favorite among the semi-regulars.) And yeah, I've seen her w/ her hubby on some of the old "Tattletales" episodes as well, although I haven't been following that show as closely...

I know Patti is still around; I actually saw a brief interview or something w/ her recently. Might have even been a promo for "GSN" - I can't remember. According to "IMDb", she pretty much does voiceover work nowadays. Have no idea about her (ex-???) hubby...

I know you like to abbreviate a lot, but I'm curious as to what "IMDb" stands. I am yet another fan of the old "Match Game" episodes. They bring back a lot of childhood memories when I watch them. Patti Deutsch was okay, as was Fannie Flagg. She (Fannie) used to wear some pretty outrageous shirts on the set! One of my favorite guests was Dick Gautier. I always thought he was funny (and handsome). I know that he made appearances on many game shows throughout the 70's and 80's, but I haven't heard anything about him in years either. Does anyone know what he's doing now?

"IMDb" = The Internet Movie Database. Many of the regulars on the '80s board refer to it when posting answers; the site is well-known by its initials. I've posted a link to the site below on Ms. Deutsch's work...

I've always been a huge fan of game shows in general, dating all the way back to my pre-teen years in the late '70s. However, I only watched "Match Game" occasionally during its mid to late '70s heyday, so they don't hold as many "childhood memories" for me, per se, other than seeing some familiar/forgotten faces back when they looked a lot younger. But since the show's "resurrection" on "GSN", I've become hooked on it - a much better show than it ever got credit for, IMO. Host Gene Rayburn was great, and I was saddened when I heard he'd passed away in November of '99, just shortly after I'd re-discovered "MG"!

When I began watching "MG" again about two years ago, I remembered Rayburn as well as Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly from when the show originally aired, but none of the other semi-regulars, including Fannie Flagg (although I'd heard of her). But thanks to "GSN", I've really become a fan of FF. Betty White was also a personal favorite of mine among the semi-regulars, but we all know she's kept a fairly high profile since "MG" went off the air almost 20 years ago. Of course, FF's claim to fame since the show was as the author of "Fried Green Tomatoes"...

He is listed under the name "Richard Gautier" on "IMDb"; you'll find all kinds of info there...

I was a game show addict as a child! So many summers days were filled watching Match Game (from about 1975), Password Plus, Card Sharks and Family Feud, among others. I am grateful that GSN has brought them all back for me to reminisce.

I definitely agree with you on this. Gene Rayburn has always been my favorite game show host, and I, too, was quite upset when he left us in 1999. He was a very congenial and very witty man. I think he brought out the best in everybody who appeared on the set. IMO no other host has "matched" this. (Note my play on words there...ha! ha!)

Thanks for the info on Mr. Gautier and for clarifying what IMDb means. I plan to check out the site.
