Grease
Bad News Bears and the sequels
Jaws
The Exorcist
The Rutles-ALL YOU NEED IS CASH(a Beatles parody TV movie)
Animal House
Tommy(yep the Who's rock opera)
American Graffitti

and one movie that was HORRIBLE:
Sgt. Pepper THAT MOVIE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN MADE. Why couldn't they just leave that album ALONE? Stigwood screwed up a classic! EVERYTHING about that movie stank!I think they tried to 'dumb down' the GREATEST album the Beatles ever made just to make $$$$$ off the gullible masses!

Tony20fan4ever,
Stigwood+Saturday Night Fever revenue = more money = cocaine or more cocaine = impaired judgement?
(just a guess)

I've read over all your lists, and here are some of my favorites culled from them:
Animal House
Smokey & The Bandit/White Lightening (don't forget Gator)
Harold & Maude
Annie Hall/Manhattan (anything Woody from the '70s!)
The Exorcist
Saturday Night Fever
Star Wars
Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail
Monty Python's The Life of Brian (Monty Python DOES rock!)
Young Frankensteing/Blazing Saddles (two of Mel Brooks' best!)
A Clockwork Orange
Vanishing Poing
Crazy Larry, Dirty Mary
Dirty Harry (any which one you want!)
The Godfather(s)
Apocalypse Now
The Taxi Driver
Network
Marathon Man (is it safe?)
(and don't forget) Midnight Cowboy

Mentioned: Excalibur, this one was from 1981.
Gumbypiz: I think we had a rap going about Crazy Larry, Dirty Mary and Vanishing Point on the old '70s board.
One of my favorite childhood movie-going memories is seeing a double feature of Vanishing Point and Crazy Larry, Dirty Mary at our local second-run cinema!

No one need mention that Stigwood's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band really stinks, but it really does stink.  Not even Alice Cooper as "The Sun King" could save it!

As an animation fan, I loved the following:

Watership Down (best animated flick of the `70's, IMHO)
The Aristocats
The Rescuers
Bakshi's Lord of the Rings (yeah, I know it bites compared to the present-day movie trilogy, but it was great at the time).  :D

I would have included Yellow Submarine, but I think that was made in `69.

Live-action favorites: Star Wars, The Muppet Movie, Heaven Can Wait, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Willy Wonka.

Best Horror Flick: Phantasm.  Terrifying, and yet somehow hilarious at the same time.  "BOOOOYYYYYYY!!!"  :o  ;D

I love the movie that set the standard for sci-fi/horror....ALIEN
During the 70s I loved Star Wars, Meatballs, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The Island at the top of the world, Dawn of the Dead
Star Trek TMP and Used Cars.  Yeah, I had screwy tastes but oh well.
God lyk!
