Man this is a tough question because there were so many great bands back then but for me (and this could change in an hour) I'd have to say either the Who or the Allman Brothers.

incredibly cool choices. anyone who says 70's music sucks ...sucks!! these were all incredibly cool "pop" bands back when pop wasn't a dirty word - because the stuff that was getting airplay and selling actually had some merit to it. is any band currently near the top of the charts as cool as Queen was in the mid 70's? roxy music were an "art rock" band that came up w/ great singles. the sweet had some crappy singles and some amazing ones, and some of their album cuts could kick the sheesh out of zeppelin or sabbath .side two of "desolation boulevarde" - come to think of it both sides totally cook! cheap trick probably belong in there somewhere, also.

heart were and still are a great band. ya gotta love zeppelin. how about 70's genesis(w/ peter gabriel),10cc(w/ godley and creme),yes,elp,the who,steely dan,jethro tull,king crimson,sparks,the tubes,blue oyster cult,cheap trick,hendrix,captain beyond,kate bush,be-bop deluxe,van der graaf generator,gentle giant,supertramp,pink floyd,the james gang/joe walsh,SPIRIT!,jo jo gunne,the jeff beck group,the mahavishnu orchestra,the move,bowie,...................

Love that list!  Whoa, T Rex, Roxy Music & Sweet they're at the top!  They're better than the Eagles or 90% of the other bands out there.  I still listen to them continually.

The Clash lasted into the '80s, and they were not a '70s rock band you'd hear on your MOR FM stations.  They were part of the "punk" reaction against the over-blown symphonic style rock of the '70s--such as Yes, ELO, ELP, Chicago, Kansas, and so on.  I'd say they count, though.

My favorite 70s bands, obviously, the Eagles, Meatloaf, CCR, I also think Trooper did a really good job and should have gotten a better following! :P Has anyone else heard of the Monks, Bad Habits? SUCH a good album from the seventees, because its hilarious!!

Without hesitation I went with.............other.....where is THE WHO on that list....I know ZEP Floyd and Tull were great but leaving THE WHO out of anything 70's is sacrilege

I go with the Zep.... Jimmy page is one of the finest axemen ever to grace music...

8) My first and foremost is and always has been...Led Zeppelin.....I love ACDC as well but Led Zep RULES!!...also I always have been a HUGE fan of KISS...My dad brought home the KISS double live albumn and I was Hooked...as far as girls bands go...HEART Rules...Ann Wilson has the best voice outta all the chicks around!!also love Boston..Black Sabbath...SOO many others...VERY hard to chose any particular group...

My #1 was and always will be Journey.  Followed by ELO, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Boston, and Cheap Trick.

On this poll I voted for Aerosmith, but my very favorite 70s band was The James Gang, and honorable mentions would go to the Raspberries, Badfinger and Sweet.

I still have my Tony DeFranco single of "Heart Beat, It's a Love Beat". Not that I'm proud of it, nor do I have anything to play it on.

I've gone for The Who (naturally) but I did hesitate as they were really a 60s group. But other people have gone for them and (in my opinion) they peaked in the 70s: 1971's Who's Next has been my favourite album for over 30 years.

There's too many good bands to choose from.......mine's a toss up between Bad Company and Journey.
