"I want to make it with you"  Notice the quotation marks-I am not saying this to anyone (expect Don Carlos of course  ;))  I just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. lol

Many people don't care for Bread, but I've always liked them. I went with "Make It With You" (1970) as my favorite - because it is.

If I had to pick a #2 and #3, I'd go with "Everything I Own" (1972) then "It Don't Matter to Me" (1972 or 1969?).

:D

Nice choice, zcrito.  I believe "It Don't Matter To Me was the flip-side of "Make It With You" so it would be 1970 :)

I voted "Make It With You" but it was tough - I almost could've gone with "Everything I Own" too.  I have to give mention to another one I always liked - "Guitar Man".  But so many are great!

I was aware of that.  And that's probably the reason why I like the song so much....it has such a special meaning attached to it.

'Everything I own' - Probably the best version of the song even though I heard Ken Boothe's reggae version first when I was little. Regardless, it certainly beats Boy George's version - which I don't mind either . . .

Bobby.....of course it was the best! It was arranged and sung by the writer....and it was a tribute and a longing from his heart as he felt it. Listen to the words, their feeling and meaning and substitute yourself and your Dad......that's what's so great and moving about the song. Same with My Dad by Paul Peterson.......listen to it also and feel your heart long for days gone by. If your Dad  is still alive I hope your relationship is strong and if it isn't do whatever you can to make it so.....one of these days he'll be dead and you won't get a chance to hug him and say, "I Love You, Dad!'.

When you have been brought up with Ken Boothe's version all your life, you think that's all there is. In fact, I thought Ken Boothe was the one that got cheated when Boy George covered the song in 1987.  ::)  :D

I will have a gander at 'My Dad' by Paul Peterson.

I appreciate what you say about parental relationships, Hoogbest but my relationship with my father is a tricky one to say the least. He's about 300 miles away from me and . . . It's tricky in other ways. I spoke to him over the phone recently and we had a great chat and I told him I loved him and he loves me too. That's all I ask from him.

I never knew that.
Which would explain its "odd" lyrics.

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

You taught me how to love
What it`s of, what it`s of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can`t let go

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

Is there someone you know
You`re loving them so
But taking them all for granted
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don`t hear the words
You long to say

I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again

;) ;D

I had to choose "Lost Without Your Love".  In the mid 70s, I think it was, I was in a children's hospital in Memphis and after I returned to my room from having a procedure done, there was a signed copy of it on my bed.  Apparently they were visiting all of the kids in the hospital.  I hate that I missed them, but I do still have my signed 45.

I've always liked that song but knowing that makes me get chills when I read the lyrics.

I didn't vote because I love all their stuff.  Too hard to pick.  I recently bought the anthology and my husband laughed at me, cuz he's more into heavy metal, but after listening to it with me, he has become a Bread fan, too.
