I'll admit it...what can I say, I like two Barry Manilow songs:
1. "Could It Be Magic"
2. "Mandy"

"Could It Be Magic" is an excellent song. One of the best of the '70s. There, I said it!   :-[

Once again CF I find myself 100% in agreement with you on this one.
"Could It Be Magic" is a great song. I saw Barry singing it on a UK TV chat show a few years ago though and he really screwed it up.
He was going for the big notes and didn't quite reach them, which was a shame.

I saw him perform on American Idol a couple weeks ago and he sounded pretty good...although it was a song from a new album, which means that I wouldn't have known what it was supposed to sound like anyway.  :-\ :)

Looks like you've been "outted" AL-B. ::)

:\'(
I remember all my life
Raining down as cold as ice
Shadows of a man
A face through a window
Crying in the night
The night goes into
Morning, just another day
Happy people pass my way
Looking in their eyes
I see a memory
I never realized how
Happy you made me

Oh, Mandy, well you came
And you gave without taking
But I sent you away, oh, Mandy
Well, you kissed me and
Stopped me from shaking
And I need you today
Oh, Mandy...

;) ;D

Last night I saw a Bette Midler biography television program. I never knew Barry Manilow was her pianist and musical director for her early '70s tours, shows and albums.

I knew he had done some musical work for television commercials early in his career but nothing about the Bette Midler connection.

Another great one is, "Ready To Take A Chance Again" - that song is REALLY hard to listen to & not get all watery-eyed :\'(

I have always wanted to see him live, but (suprise surprise) I can never get anyone to go with me. :(  So I've decided next time he comes into town, I'm going by myself. :D

Id have to say Mandy...Although I do like the version of this song called Brandy as well. I cant remember who sang Brandy, but I actually think it was the original version, though I could be wrong.

I also like Copacabanna and a few others.

I LOVE his 80's hits Lets Hang On and Some Kind Of Friend.

I have a Barry Manilow CD and I listen to fairly often when I want to chill out.  I pretty much like anything he did.  Now that I'm getting older I like is music and song writting.  He was in Columbus Ohio, and I wasn't able to go.  I think it would've been fun. ;D  I saw him on an interview and he said "this is what Clay Akin is going to look like in thirty years."  That was funny. ;D

I used to hate his music with a passion, but I guess it's okay as I get older.  One of the reasons for my nic is from a brainstorming session with a buddy trying to think of some name for a band he was forming.  Some others that we came up with were Free Beer, Wrestling Meat, Mother's Maiden Name, Crackbabyonacid, and Shouldashotyoko.  I have used some of them as nics and account names in the past.

I a big fan of Barry (and not afraid to admit it either, I even have his CD Ultimate Manilow! ;D) As for my favorite song by him, I would have to narrow it down to a select few:

Mandy
Could It Be Magic
Daybreak
Can't Smile Without You
Ready to Take a Chace again
Copacabana

That's about it. Barry rocks! Peace out. :D

After a long lul of bad music in the post Beatle era of the early/mid 70's music the music in the mid/late 70's started to get interesting again with the new Disco sound and a pool of new creative Artists that were original song writers and the best of them was Barry Manilow. He filled that void that was missing in the business, a great music writer song lyrisist and music composer to create songs that have staying power for the ages. I think every song he wrote in his first few years went to number one, he was as good writing lyrics as John and Paul were in his beginings and better than them in story compositions...tell me, is there better story's than " Weekend in New England" "This One's for you" "Even Now" " Copacabana" he painted pictures in your head with his words that even today could put you in a good mood when you hum his songs. Yes, I was, and still am a fan of his music, and my wife also a big fan too, got to see him in concert in Radio City and once in a broadway theater, he put on a good show...I'd go again to see him in concert.

When the mood strikes me I put on his albums and mellow out...I think I'll do it now! Thanks.
