Subject: Current 1970s Themed Shows - and a Suggestion

Written By: AmericanGirl on 05/01/04 at 12:34 am

What are your favorite current 1970s radio/TV shows?

I moderate a brand new fans' website for my favorite radio show - Super Groovy 70's. It is a Syndicated weekly one hour show. It is EXCELLENT. It specializes in early-mid 70s pop/rock/soul music, but plays everything, including rarities, novelties, and one hit wonders. Artist biographies, TV/Movie themes, and trivia questions are frequent features. :)

I'll suggest this show for your local radio station. Visit my fans' website if you're curious.

Howard,

I'm afraid the show airs only on Saturdays at 1PM.  The programming you'll hear at other times using the "listen live" link will be the host station's regular programming.  The host station is WFEM in Owego, NY.

Glad to hear you're interested in listening  ;D  Hopefully it'll be on the air in your area sometime in the near future...

Howard, the best I can do is give you a log from a past show - here's one from a while back (I haven't got all the recent ones written down yet):

1. Little Willy/Sweet
2. Brother Louie/Stories
Three's Company Theme Set (guess what the next 3 songs have in common):
3. Rockin' Robin/Michael Jackson
4. The Lion Sleeps Tonite/Robert John
5. Spanish Harlem/Aretha Franklin
6. "Comedy Classic": King Tut/Steve Martin
7. I Saw The Light/Todd Rundgren
8. 45 Flashback: Yellow River/Christie
Bio-Feedback: Biography of group Spinners
9. It's A Shame/Spinners
10. One Of A Kind Love Affair/Spinners
11. Funky Nassau/Beginning Of The End
12. "Silver Screen" Song: One Tin Soldier/Coven
13. Let Your Love Flow/Bellamy Brothers
Super Groovy Stumper: You guess the song based on a description
Stumper Solution: My Girl Bill/Jim Stafford

Variety is a strong suit of the show's music, thanks to Joe's extensive collection and knowledge.  Plus Joe always gives interesting tidbits about the songs and artists.  Take a listen if you're able...   8)

Hmmmm.  With the newsletter being a Quarterly, the plan is to release one around Mar. 1, June 1, Sep. 1, and Dec. 1.  It's not in the plans to send it more often, for more than one reason.

But with enthusiastic responses like yours  ;D  I might have to consider putting together some kind of news "supplement" to send out before Dec. 1  ::)

Thanks for your feedback!!!

Thanks for asking, Howard!   :D

Bio-Feedback is the show segment where Joe gives the biography of an artist, then plays a series of their songs.  It is a feature almost every week, except the artist changes.  This coming week, the Jackson 5/Jacksons are the feature artist.

The featured soundclip currently on the website (Fun and Games page) is a bio-feedback segment.  The artist is America.

Know what I think is amazing about That 70's Show?  I thought it would be a quick flash in the pan series.  But look how long it has endured.  If you remember, a "That 80's Show" came out about a year into the show - and went bye-bye.  The show's endurance is a testament to the quality of the show.  :)
