Another difficult one...but after much summing-up...

The sweet soul of The Stylistics...closely followed by The Chi-Lites (not on the list, but worthy of a mention...)

The Stylistics and Earth, Wind and Fire tying for first.

Incidently, has anybody heard Mick Hucknall's version of 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' ?  If so, what did you think ?

Oh, man, early 70's soul is some of my all-time favorite music! Out of the groups listed I chose the Spinners, because they have so many great tunes that I like, but I'd say my personal favorite song out of that era is "Give Me Just A Little More Time," by Chairmen Of The Board. (I've got this great 70's soul CD box set by Rhino--if you are in to this kind of music I highly recommend it.)

Other groups I like: Deflonics, Stylistics, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, the Rev. Al Green, and of course let's not forget the Godfather of Soul, JAAAAAAAAAAAAAMES BROWN!!!

For '70s Male Soul groups (careful "AL-B" the poll is for groups not individuals  ;) ), it looks like the score ** is...

War..(4)
Isley Brothers..(4)
The Spinners..(3)
O'Jays..(3)
Earth, Wind & Fire..(2)
Main Ingredient..(2)
The Stylistics..(2)
L.T.D & Jeffrey Osborne..(2)
The Jackson 5..(2)

** The Score is based on the number of '70s songs by these groups that I really, really like (I always turn the car radio up when it comes on kind of song.)

So it looks like War and Isley Brothers win.

But....

I'll give the award to The Spinners !    ;D

:D

If I included the Rev. Al he would also have a score of (4). As for James B., I never cared for him.  Besides I always think of him as being more '60s than '70s. That's just me.

I forgot another great '70s male group: The Brothers Johnson (score=2)   ;D

The Stylistics.  Their song Can't Give You Anything (But My Love) is one of my all-time faves from the 70's :)

Earth, Wind & Fire

The Spinners- There greatest hits album is a classic!

The Temptations still had some great ones inthe early 70s
