They were actually a "studio band." Other songs by 'bands' with the same lead singer:

United We Stand - Brotherhood of Man

My Baby Loves Lovin' - White Plains

Beach Baby - First Class

That's Tony Burrows who you're referring to, Zella...sang on three different hits in as many weeks in early-1970...

He's also the 'low' voice on 'Gimme Dat Ding' by The Pipkins (later that year)...

Personally, I've only heard a couple more EL tracks (one with Tony, one without) and, pleasant as they are, they're not a patch on 'Love Grows'...

My name is Stuart Edwards. Original member of Edison lighthouse.

We were not, in fact a "Studio" band, far from it. We were a working outfit prior to "Love grows"
and, incidentally still are albeit as a duo, myself and Dave Taylor (original Bass player)

Cool Stuart..nice to hear you are still doing your music and together with another orignal member of Edison Lighthouse.
Love Grows is a great pop classic. :)

Great to hear from you Stuart!  I love that song.... one of my absolute favorites from the 70's.

I always turn up the volume when I hear it.

Has anyone ever heard the Wayne Newton version of "Love Grows.."?  I looked the song up on Napster a while back and his version came up.

As my 6 year old would say.."It Burns!!"

Laurel

(Disclaimer, I have nothing against Wayne Newton.)

I had a girlfriend called Rosemarie at the time Love Grows was a hit.... she hated it. Of course I sung it all the time...

Ironically we didn't last. ::)

Did any one of these bands have another hit or were they just one hit wonders?

I think the only song Edison Lighthouse sang was "Love Grows Where Rosemary Grows". I also think he was a one-hit wonder, unless he came out with another song that I didn't know about. I could be wrong, I've been wrong many, many times before  :-\\  ;D

Edison Lighthouse were a UK studio group which consisted of songwriters Barry Mason and Tony MaMacaulay with session singer Tony Burrows. After the two singles they had "Love Grows Where Rosemary Grows" and "It's Up to You Petula", Tony Burrows went on to front Brotherhood Of Man.
