My favourite is 'Roll Over Lay Down' but it was a tough choice !

I voted for "Caroline" because it's one of the great rock guitar riffs of all time...and it reminds me of a girl called Caroline!
Status Quo in their heyday were just great. I was never that keen after John Coghlan and Alan Lancaster left though and they
turned into more of a pop band than a rock band.

Great song maddog. That would be my second choice. I also like what they did in the 60's. 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' is a classic IMO !  I'm with you not being keen on their later stuff, too !

'Caroline' here, too...but 'Down The Dustpipe' came close (this was just as they were shedding their skin from pop-psych band to the 4-bar boogie outfit everyone knows 'em for...great stuff...)

Possibly not a lot of our US friends will know The Quo...which is a shame...

I never really got into the Quo much as I'm a tad too young, but I do remember seeing Alan Lancaster and John Coughlin a lot during the late 80s after both of them moved to Australia. Lancaster was in the Party Boys for a few years and I never missed a show when they were in town and later both he and Coughlin formed a band called The Bombers that played around the traps for a while.

Ha !  Biggest cave of them all !  :)

I came to the conclusion a LONG time ago that in the 60s and 70’s all of your record company executives were musical xenophobes !  ::)

You got that right!! Although Status Quo didn't tour much (if at all) in the States that I remember........ and with the lack of media in the 70s (compared to today), you had to tour to stay hot.

I've heard Status Quo is actually the band "Spinal Tap" was modeled on.

There's a lot of support for that theory Maxwell, particularly around the early days of the Tap and the Quo....there's a scene in the movie of Spinal Tap in their early "psychedelic" period playing their hit "Listen To The Flower People" that's very reminiscent of old footage of Status Quo playing "Pictures Of Matchstick Men".

Some of the later scenes in the movie are more of a collection of influences of many other rock bands. I've read several interviews with bands who said that the scene where they get lost on the way from the dressing room to the stage is based on their own experience!

That's cool if it's true, MaxwellSmart :)
