Subject: Cat Stevens

I chose 'Father and Son' closely followed by 'Morning Has Broken', but I like a lot of Cats' stuff.

I can't believe there hasn't been a Cat Stevens music poll till now. How did that happen?

I like and could go with any one of these as a favorite but I went with "Morning Has Broken" today...

Morning Has Broken :)
Where Do the Children Play?
The Wind
Oh Very Young
18th Avenue (Kansas City Nightmare)
Freezing Steel
Trouble

;) :)

Father And Son

Again, too hard to pick just one!

I went with "Peace Train".  But I could've easily picked "Wild World" or "Father and Son".  I also give kudos to "The Hurt" - always a favorite of mine.  :)

I knew that.  ;)

As much as I love most of  Cat's songs, this is the one song that really did it for me. Even though it is Father and SON, it discribes my relationship with my parents when I was a teen.

I'm not a big fan of this guy (unlike my sister-in-law), but I do like "Peace Train".  :)

Hey, we don't need any Cat haters around here.  >:(
So, which songs of his do you think your well informed, knowledgeable, Cat lovin' sister-in-law would like? ::)

(just kidding)

Hee hee!  Hiya, zcrito!  ;)

I don't know if you were with us on the 'old board', but my sister-in-law was a member there for a while and she went by the name of CatLover.  I would say that she's probably the biggest Cat Stevens fan in the world.  She's met him and she goes to his fan site every single day.  I really doubt that there's a Cat Stevens song that she doesn't like...she's got anything and everything that he ever put out!  :D

Morning Has Broken, Oh Very Young, Moonshadow and Wild World are all okay songs, but the only one of his I ever really liked a lot was "The Hurt" - so I had to pick 'other'. ;)

I love just about all of them.. but I said "other"  since 'Bitter Blue"  really sticks out in my head.

I loved "Catch Bull at Four"

1) Father And Son
2) Moonshadow
3) Wild World
4) Matthew and Son

Having grown up with Cat Stevens always being playing, "Father and Son" has cropped up in my adulthood and married life, especially when my own son was born and has now grown up.

I chose Father and Son, followed closely by Another Saturday Night and Remember The Days (At The Old School Yard).

Have to say I also LOVE his DVD Majicat!!! I would have LOVED to have seen in concert!!!

A fine singer/songwriter...I prefer his earliest works like 'Matthew & Son' and 'I Love My Dog' over the later stuff...

And from that early work, I choose the rarely-heard (for obvious reasons) 'I'm Gonna Get Me A Gun'...

I still have nasty-ish memories of 'Morning Has Broken', as it used to be slaughtered regularly in morning hyms at school...!

Neil Diamond did a horrid version 'Morning Has Broken' too, not one of the worlds best.

I have to wonder what made Cat Stevens leave fame behind for Islam......

Subject: Re: Cat Stevens

Written By: Philip Eno on 01/03/05 at 5:21 am

I heard in an interview that, he survived a near drowning and the experience led to his conversion to Islam.

I heard in an interview that, he survived a near drowning and the experience led to his conversion to Islam.

In his biography he also says:

"At 19, I contracted tuberculosis and was whisked off to hospital. It was a very scary time - I came face-to-face with my own mortality. It sparked off my first earnest search for a way forward. The thoughts which I developed during that teenage period of illness helped me to reflect on things, and paved the way for the life I now lead as a Muslim."

1. Peace Train
2. Wild World
3. Morning Has Broken
4. Father & Son

Cat Stevens songs had a way of bring to to peace and realization with his words. They were so simple but made a big impact.
