Subject: Sweet Poll

Written By: eightiesfan on 07/08/04 at 8:00 am

Not sure if I spelled the group's name right, but I think they had some of the coolest songs out in the 70's - to me, Sweet was sort of a precursor to the New Wave bands that followed within the next decade.

My favorite Sweet song is "Ballroom Blitz"

Hi there eightiesfan (presumably a bit of a 70s fan too?).

I voted for "Other", specifically "Teenage Rampage" which long time board members will be thoroughly bored of hearing was the first record I ever bought, on my 11th birthday in 1974.

I'd suggest you might actually extend the list of song options on this poll, eigtiesfan, at least to include Teenage Rampage and Blockbuster, two of their greatest songs.

Thanks for those suggestions maddog! I've never heard either of those songs before.

I voted for Ballroom Blitz but it was a close call between that and Blockbuster

I am torn between Ballroom Blitz and Love is Like Oxygen. As I kid, I liked Little Willy but, like I said, I was a kid and there was no counting for taste.  :-\\

I went with 1978's "Love is Like Oxygen".

Didn't someone sample that song a couple of years ago? ???

:)

"Fox On The Run"...great song!  :)

Wow! We are agreeing on a fave! Is this scary or what? :o ;D

They also had a song called AC-DC that was out at the same time as Fox on the Run and was popular on the West Coast.

Hey, you knew it was bound to happen sooner or later!  ;D

Can't say I've heard of that one... :-\\

I voted for 'Fox on the run'. However, Teenage Rampage, Blockbuster, Little Willy, Wig Wam Bam, Funny Funny and Poppa Joe are so irresistable.

The Chinn and Chapman songwriting partnership made The Sweet a big success in Britain.

I think Hell Raiser isn't too bad either but IMO not their best.  :)
