Subject: Paul Davis Favorites

I like Paul Davis.  He's done some really nice soft rock songs.

My favorite is "Sweet Life", followed by "I Go Crazy".  :)

Those late '70s and early '80s mellow sounds of Paul Davis.

I always liked them in this order...

1. "I Go Crazy" (one of those songs you hear for years and then look it up to see when it came out -- 1977)
2. "Do Right"
3. "Sweet Life"

Disco didn't kill Paul (and others like him) in the '70s but MTV probably did him in in the '80s.  ::)

Don't really know much by him.  "I Go Crazy" is an okay song.  I should probably go out and listen to more of his stuff.

Yes !  ;D  But he is not well known here.  I voted for one I know best (which was an 'other") : "A Little Bit Of Soap"

Better do some downloading, I think  :)

To be honest, I've never heard of the one that Fuss mentioned.  But Manda...I'm quite sure that you would like Paul Davis...his music is very mellow.  I'm certain that once you hear "I Go Crazy", you'll recognize it immediately!  That one was very popular.  :)

I thought the same thing - I guess we're in the majority here.

I almost got Paul Davis confused or mixed up with Paul Young.  There must a Paul Young thread somewhere?

You had me checking to make sure I didn't have the wrong artist!  But I don't !  Here are the lyrics :

A little bit of soap will wash away your lipstick on my face
But a little bit of soap will never never never ever erase
The pain in my heart and my eyes as I go through the lonely years
A little bit of soap will never wash away my tears

Mmm, a little bit of soap will wash away your powder from my chin
A little bit of soap will never never never ever begin
To take away the hurt that I feel as I go through the lonely years
A little bit of soap will never wash away my tears, mmm, mmm, mmm

Have you heard when love begins to die it leaves someone to cry night and day?
Like a bird, you left your robin's nest and-a just like all the rest you flew away

Mmm, a little bit of soap will take away your perfume eventually
But a little bit of soap will never wash away the memory
Of your name in the night that I call through the lonely years
A little bit of soap will never wash away my tears

I'll never lose the memory of your name in the night that I call through the lonely years
A little bit of soap will never wash away my tears
Mmm, a little bit of soap-a will never wash away my tears
FADE
Mmm, it's gonna never, never, never, uh-huh, wash away my tears

I know Cool Night and 65 Love Affair.  Im not sure if I know the others, but Id like to hear them.  I always liked soft rock.  I think I might have heard I Go Crazy, is it a pretty slow song?

I used to get him mixed up with Paul Young too.

Aye jaytee, that was the thought that ran through my head, to be honest, so CF, that one would get a nay from me.  :(

Okay, shall do. I see some Einstein on Kazaa has it listed as "Sweat Life"  ::) ;D

Alright, I have one more to suggest to you since you seem to like the 'uptempto' songs more.  Try downloading "'65 Love Affair"...that's a bit of a different sound for Paul Davis.  I do think you'll like it though...it came out in the early '80's (over here).  :)

Don't rightly know how I missed this one...thanks to Jen82 for throwing it back up (not literally, of course...!)

Mr. Davis meant absolutely nothing over here (surprisingly), but he did make some fine stuff...

My choice, 'Cool Night' followed by 'I Go Crazy'...''65 Love Affair' although catchy, never really gripped me as much as the other two...

The only 70's song I know of his is "I Go Crazy" - yeah, it's sappier than I can come up with a good adjective for, but I've always liked songs like that, what can I say? ;)

The best of the bunch, which I picked, was "Cool Night" - it has the same romantic feeling, but with more of an 80's pop/rock flavor.

I actually found his 1982 album of the same name recently, and liked the bouncy "Love or Let Me Be Lonely". Same with "65 Love Affair" which is entertaining in a nostalgic way. "What You Got to Say About Love" is a great album track too - more on the rock side of things but still in context with the other songs.
