Subject: Absolute Worst Love Songs Of The 70's!

Written By: PoetDude on 09/22/04 at 3:29 am

Okay, I finally got to see the flick Starsky and Hutch (Hollywood Video had a really cool video sale, etc.). There was A LOT of really BAD music from the 70's in the movie. Including one or two love songs!  I mean, some of it was so bad that I thankfully forgot I ever heard some of these "hits". Yeah, I actually was there! LOL. And some of them were very big hits. Go figure. So here's a few I am still totally in a state of shock over. And I am hoping you will come up with one or two more really bad "love classics" from the 70's for me. Can you think of any? Thanks!

~PoetDude

1. Afternoon Delight (Starland Vocal Band)
2. Puppy Love (Donny Osmond)
3. Take Me Home (Cher)

You are everything and everything is you - don't recall the artist but he sang in a falsetto voice :P

Some other 70s song with something about "This is Larry," was equally gross.

Thank you, manda...saves me a job...!!

In actual fact, you're correct in a way because 'Honey' was a hit in the UK twice - 1968 and 1975, reaching #2 on both occasions...was there something wrong with us...?!!

But even this is bearable compared to Debby Boone's 'You Light Up My Life'...didn't light mine up much...!!

I loved Owen Wilson's version of David Soul's song "Don't Give Up On Us" that he did in the movie - I didn't expect him to have such a nice voice.

BJ~I was gonna say Andy Gibb. But I guess that was another bad love classic with "everything" in the title, huh? LOL. (Not so sure about "This is Larry".  Anybody else got a clue?) Thanks for your comment!

Paul~yeah! I was thinking that "You Light Up My Life" has got to be among the most annoying love songs ever. (So whatever happened to Debby Boone?  ;D) Thanks for the really cool examples!

One of the worst songs EVER!  Feelings. Have no idea who did it and I really don't want to know. Of course I'm not too sure if it could be called a love song or a breaking-up song.

Fuss answered the first song for you...so I'll answer the second....

The line, Cancer....and this is Larry is from:

"Float On", by...oddly enough...The Floaters.  It came out around 1977.  :D

That song was by Morris Albert, and I couldn't agree with you more, Cat!

Awful...just AWFUL!!!

It wasn't a favorite of mine either, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Correction:

The line is actually...."Cancer...and my name is Larry"...

Each of the four band members told what their horoscope was....

I agree with most of the comment here.
Add to that Silly Love Songs by Wing (I fail to put up McCartney because I think HE would have been embarrassed by this song)

"Torn Between Two Lovers"-Mary MacGregor
"Morning After" and "Different Worlds" (Theme from "Angie") by Maureen McGovern
"Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" (Slow Version) by Neil Sedaka
"Rock Me Gently"-Andy Kim

Cat~ ;D I remember Carol Burnett did a spoof of "Feelings" on her comedy show. She was supposed to go on The Gong Show (remember that one?) and sing her heart out, etc. Of course she got gonged big time! ;D Yeah, that's gotta be pretty close to the worst love classic ever!

I don't know. That song, "Feelings", is so odd it's kind of humorous. And anything that can make me laugh or chuckle can't be all bad. I think you people are dumping on some songs that do have a little value.

It is funny you said that because EVERYTIME I hear/think of that song, I ALWAYS think of Carol Burnett-and I usually sing it off-key and off-pitch like she did.  :D
