This one was tough, but I went with "Good Times" (Chic)....followed by "Heart Of Glass" (Blondie).... :)

It was hard to choose, but "What a Fool Believes" gets my vote. Second would be "Heart of Glass".

What? No 'My Sharona'...? (Ho, ho...!!)

The Doobies from the above, followed by Chic - third would be Rupert Holmes (as no-one's mentioned him yet...!)

But all good ones all the same...

There were many other good songs out that year (it's one of my favorites of that decade  8) )

The Little River Band had a great year in 1979...

Lonesome Loser

Lots of good songs this year, I'll be daring and vote for Rupert Holms.  Isn't My Sharona a '79 classic, one of my faves of the decade!

Thank you...whilst here, I'll throw in three that were pretty big that year in the UK, but meant nothing Stateside - pity, you missed out on some good stuff...

Boomtown Rats - 'I Don't Like Mondays'

Janet Kay - 'Silly Games' (about the only piece of 'Lover's Rock' I can stomach, but a very sweet tune, for all that...)

John Williams - 'Theme From The Deer Hunter' (chilling theme and film...)

I do know the Boomtown Rats song (though I didn't hear it until about 1985).  The other two are foreign to my ears....

Wow I'm in grade 9 again with all of these songs.

Pina Colada and Pop Music were my picks on the list but
My Sharona and any of the LRB brings me back to dances in th a'cafetorium'.

4th/5th grade for me, and all memorable songs...

I pick What A Fool Believes because Minute By Minute was a favorite cassette of mine and I must have played it to death...

I voted for "Pop Muzik"

A lot of artists who became big in the 80's had their first hits in '79, such as Prince (I Wanna Be Your Lover), John Mellencamp
(I Need a Lover), and Pat Benatar (Heartbreaker). Just something neat I thought I'd pass along.

Since I love Blondie so much I had to go with "Heart of Glass"....

On a side note, "Pretty Baby" is probably my favorite Blondie song all together though...

Of those listed, I like "Pop Muzik" by M and "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie the best. There are a few unlisted songs that I could mention. 1979 was the year before I was born, by the way. :)
