I picked "Against the Wind".

I love the lyrics in that song: "Seems like yesterday, but it was long ago..."

Other:  "Mainstreet".  I don't love the lyrics but the tune is hauntingly beautiful!

I guess I would go with "Mainstreet" and "Beautiful Loser"

Bob Seger to me always seemed like "Springsteen Lite."

I also like Mainstreet the best. As for the comparison to Bruce...it's true that Seger sounds a little like him.  I think that's the only "Part" of Bob that sucks though.

Still the Same :)

I just heard this on the radio and I honestly didn't know it was Bob Seger.  Another lost classic found :)

I gotta go with "Against the Wind."  I relate to the bitter lyrics, such as:
"surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends..."
:(

I have this love-hate ambivalence about Seger.  On the one hand, I did enjoy a lot of his hits.  On the other hand, he was one of the rockers my mom liked.  I suppose I feel about Bob Seger the way a jaded baby-boomer would feel about Bing Crosby or Frank Sinatra.  "Oh, man, what a drag!  That's the sh*t our parents used to listen to!"  Actually, my parents technically are not baby-boomers.  Born in 1940 and 1941, they're the tail-end of the "Silent Generation," but they're definitely Boomers culturally speaking.

Anyway, I rebelled against hard guitar rock and long greasy hair by listening to synth-pop and dressing New Romantic!
;D

^ Hey Max, I always like hearing your perspective on various subjects. I definitely see where you're coming from on that. ;)

For an alltime fave song, I would also go with "Against the Wind" (I like the lyrics, which I can relate to more and more with time). Kind of uplifting, fun and sad all at once.

It came out in 1980, and stylistically it's sorta both 70's and 80's.

I guess Seger does have a sort of multigenerational appeal. He was well into his 30's and even 40's when he was most popular, so that may have something to do with it.

I always connect "Against the Wind" with a scene in Forrest Gump. I can't remember which scene it was, but I remember it being in the film. It may have been when he was running cross country. Great song, though, one of those "traveling songs" where you're on the road and it sort of moves you a long.

^ I love that one too - very 80's and totally energetic rock song. The album it comes off, The Distance, unfortunately only has 2 or 3 other really good songs.

Me too. (On an off note, I've watched that movie tons of times since it came out, and every time I notice something new, or see something slightly different than the time before.)

The first song in his big running trek is "Go Your Own Way" from Fleetwood Mac. That came later if I remember right (it's been awhile, lol). You're right, it's a great travelling song, even if it's just travelling through life. ;)
