Subject: Aerosmith's Dream On

Written By: eightieschick53 on 01/26/05 at 5:10 pm

Anyone ever heard the song Dream On by Aerosmith? It is such a cool song! When Steven Tyler sings it, it doesn't even sound like him and I mean at all!  :o The only place it kind of sounded like him when near the end when he lets loose and screams, "Dream On" in true Steven fashion. I was reading on Songfacts website he wrote the song when he was 17 which would explain why it is such a nice song. He wrote it before all the drugs and alcohol affected him.

IMO, it was the best song that Areosmith has ever done.

Here's some more info for ya. They released it originally in 1973....it actually bombed so AFTER 1975's "Toys In The Attic" the re-released it in 1976 and it became a monster hit. The same thing happened to Hall & Oates' "She's Gone"....same years :)

Very good song, but as far as Aerosmith ballads go, I prefer "Seasons of Wither" from Get Your Wings over "Dream On."

A true Classic!    ;D

I was in high school at that time.  Most of us didn't know about Aerosmith until "Dream On" came out.  The song made the group a household name right away.  It hit the airwaves with MAJOR IMPACT.

Once "Walk This Way" came out later that year ('76), we all knew that Aerosmith ROCKED.  But the whole foundation was started by "Dream On"...   8)

It's still annoying how people say  Run DMC was the artist that did "Walk This Way" in the 80's remake.....when in actuality it was Aerosmith with Run DMC

most of these have no idea who sang it. But I think I prefer the 70's version of Areosmith versus the late 80's. Saw them way back at the old Boston garden. Them and J Geils  used to open for a lot of acts way way back in the New England area.

Saw Aerosmith in San Jose about 2-3 years ago. Cheap Trick opened for them, & we had great seats on the floor. Steven Tyler left the main stage & sang from the extended stage which put him about 25 feet away from us. Then they played Dream On. We see them in concert every year when they tour Northern Cal., & this performance of Dream On was the absolute best. Steven Tyler put a lot of passion & feeling into it, and most of the audience was singing along. It was quite a moving experience, especially with Steven Tyler & Joe Perry right in front of us. They're gonna be in Nor-Cal once this year that I'm aware of & Motley Crue is opening for them. I'm gonna try to get some tix.  8)

I thought it was Tyler who sang was not sure just called my best Friend from Mass. I know it is after 5:00 am. but we have called each other so many times since we where 12. His exact words where Bill you where so wasted a dog could have sung that night and you wouldn't know. He said who ever said they did Dream on in 75 is whacked it was not  released the second time till around 78.  So we yakked he is a big Aerosmith fan, he does a forum on one of their fan sites. Anyways the second time it came out was in 78 on Live Bootleg. So my bad for not thinking it was him singing.  Oh yeah here is a link to it. http://www.aerosmithfans.com

Dream On was one of the song choices my students could "decipher" on their final.  It was interesting to read some of their interpretations of the song.

dream on was cool, it was a bit of a stairway knockoff when you think about it, in that it started off all fingerpicking guitar clean tone and then got heavier and heavier as it went. but i liked it back in the day.

whoever mentioned sweet emotion above gets my vote. i LOVE that song. i haven't heard it in forever.

Aerosmith,  AEROSMITH!  You mean the Rolling Stones imitation band with Steven Tyler as Mick Jagger
and Joe Perry as Keith Richard, and very poor imitations I must say  Oh man, snore......

Yeah, we used to call Aerosmith the "Poor Mans Rolling Stones". BUT, Their first LP with "Walking the Dog", etc., and their second release "Get Your Wings", with "Seasons of Withert" truly rock. Gotta have a place in your heart for these timeless rockers.... IMHO...........................'
I still feel that, IMHO, that "Toy's in the Attic" is their strongest release........(Uncle Salty, Toys, Sweet Emotion, etc......................)

hawkwind was an english psychedelic band from the 1970s who is still around and IS PLAYING IN LONDON ON DECEMBER 20th.

like my old ass doesn't already have enough bands to follow.

they were sorta like pink floyd, but also like strawberry alarm clock adn status quo etc. and it was hard to say exactly who they ripped off, but it was pretty clear they were ripping off somebody. still, they had some really good stuff. "masters of the universe" and "world of tiers" are classic, classic tracks.
