Subject: Does anyone remember "Shaddap Ya Face"??

Written By: ADH13 on 03/04/05 at 7:42 pm

I had a vague recollection of being about 8 or 9 and the teenagers on my block were playing this song "Shaddap Ya Face" but I couldn't remember anything about it but a little of the chorus.  I finally found it online and downloaded it just so I could remember what it sounded like.  It's kind of a dumb song but I have never heard it since the mid 70's until I downloaded it.  Was just curious if anyone else knows of it.

Unfortunately, yes.  It was a big hit here in Australia and I think it was a hit in the UK too.  The artist (if you call him that) was Joe Dolce.

Wow I can't believe someone has finally heard of it!!  I can remember as a little kid shouting "HEY!" but after so many years of never hearing it on the radio and never finding anyone who had heard of it, I began to wonder if it was just a piece of my imagination.

Thanks :)

I remember it too - it made me chuckle   ;D

According to Billboard, it was a hit song for Joe Dolce in the spring of 1981.  It was categorized as novelty.  It reached #53 on the Billboard chart and spent 14 weeks on the charts.

He reminded me of Chico Marx...    :D

You didn't have the dubious honour of sending him to #1 with it tho'...!!

Some things are better left unexplained...

This record is now famous for keeping "Vienna" by Ultrvaox at the number 2 position in the charts.

And if ever there was a textbook case of 'is there no justice' - this certainly is it...!

..also this record ruined what would have be a good record, Andrew Sachs as Manuel from Fawlty Towers singing "Shaddap Ya Face", but Joe Dolce steps in just the release of his record!

Whilst looking for another song yesterday I came across this quote from an unknown source

" 'Shaddap You Face' in its twenty-third year as the most successful song in Australian music history, breaks the twenty-two year record set by Slim Dusty and 'The Pub With No Beer', which was released in 1957, and held the record until 1979, when it was overtaken by Mike Brady and The Two Man Band, with 'Up There Cazaly'"

Joe Dolce can also be heard singing his song "Intimacy" with his then girlfriend in the film Terminator.

I CAN'T HOLD IT IN ANY LONGER  ;D ;D ;D ;D

From : http://www.undercover.com.au/news/2003/20030423_joedolce.html

Dolce is actually an American who migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1979. Born in Painsville, Ohio in 1947.

Aha !  One of THEM  ;D  An Ohioan no less !  Take that, Zella !  Thanks for NOTHING - thanks for sending him OUR way  ::)  :D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The English, the creators of the worst acts in the world including S Club 7 and Steps know crap when they hear it so when they say the worst song in the world is by an Aussie, who are we to argue.

Joe Dolce's 'Shaddup You Face' has been officially given the title 'Worst Song In History' based on a poll carried out by the BBC.

The song was a number 1 hit in England and Australia

and

'Shaddup You Face' still holds the record as the most successful Australian single ever.

Runners up for the worst song title were 'Mr Blobby' by Noel Edmunds, 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' by Middle of the Road, 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua and 'Long Haired Lover From Liverpool' by Little Jimmy Osmond

Ugggh, what illustrious company the song had  >:(

Mind you, I always liked Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, muwahahah  ;D
