Subject: Hanna Barbara cartoons

Written By: Trimac20 on 04/26/05 at 12:01 am

I fondly remember watching those old Hanna Barbara cartoons when I was younger, and was curiously to what 'era' they belonged to. For example, between which years did the following series air from:

The Jetsons
The Flintstones
Laurel or Hardy (or something like that)
Scooby Doo
Speed Racer
Any others.

Jetsons 1962-63??? Was the original series in colour or black and white? The Jetsons I remember was definately in colour, but I didn't think they had colour TV (I mean for the general public) anywhere in the world that early. I know colour tv only came here in 1975, and the US in the late 60s. I also know for a fact that the Flintstones aired until 1979 and it definately was around most of the 1970s.

Flinstones aired in syndication.
From TV Tome...
The Flintstones and its spin-offs had a highly successful run on Saturday mornings--on NBC from January 1967-September 1970, on CBS from September 1972-January 1974, back on NBC from February 1979-September 1984, and on ABC with The Flintstone Kids from September 1986-September 1989.

First Aired September 1960
Last Aired April 1966

As far as I know the Jetsons were always in color, not black and white. In the US, color TV came out in the early 50's, but did not become more mainstream in homes (they were expensive) until the early 60's.
They also made new episodes in the 80's as well.

All of the information off of the first post came from www.imdb.com and the info in this post is from www.tvtome.com

From Japan, yes - but it was Tatsunoko Productions.

Mushi Pro was the first production company of TEZUKA Osamu, the man responsible for Astro Boy and Kimba The White Lion, amongst others.

Edit: Then again, way back then, these things weren't exactly advertised as being "from Japan" when they were taken overseas, so I suppose some confusion was inevitable.
